Question Use Unity as a simple experimentao software to present 3D stimuli

Dear all,
I have a maybe very dummy questions about Unity.
We have an HTC Vive Eye Pro at our lab.
We usually study emotional processes showing different type of 2D pics through experimental softwares such as Eprime etc...which allows to control the sequence of presentation, the timing, the triggers send to another computer through an LTP port etc....
My wish would be to make a jump using 3D pictures (existing, not created in virtual reality). Would Unity would be a solution to manage all the contingencies mentioned above but with 3D pics ? Can unity be interfaced with classical experimental softwares ?

i've seen these (but at least first one felt really complicated to use.. i'd rather make simple own version)

you can code anything with unity, and can google for things like
"c# LPT port receive messages"
and often those c# examples work with unity also,
or if not, they could be made as separate .exe that is launched in the background to handle that logic..
