[Solved] Blank error on two separate collab projects on new computer

Hi, i recently got a new macbook and downloaded two separate Collaborate projects and both have a blank compilation error that prevents compilation. No stacktrace, nothing the editor log. NOTHING. I can open new projects just fine. using Unity 2017.4.35f1 . Any ideas?

 

That's very strange! Have you tried looking in the Editor.log to see if there is any more information there? Do any other of your Collaborate-enabled Projects download with this same issue?

I'm not seeing anything in your Editor logs that could result in a blank Console message like what you're seeing. Could you try running our Network Reporter Tool to verify that there isn't anything on the Collab service that might be interrupted and causing this issue?

 

Those were all the entries with the word error nearby.

Deleting all the assets in an offending downloaded collab project seemed to get rid of the blank error... Im downloading again to see if it works

 

downloading returned the error... this error doesn't appear on 3 other computers that all collab on this....

 

Your network connection to Collaborate seems fine, according to your network report. I've tried asking other QA in Unity to see if they can offer any additional insight into why you're seeing this kind of error on just one machine. Is there anything unique about the one machine you're seeing this error on compared to the others that aren't seeing it?

 

Not that I can think of. It was a freshly installed version of Mac OS Catalina on a MacBook pro with fresh install of Unity, android studio, visual studio etc, all installed without issue. I have two windows computers and two other macs. I've never seen a totally blank error before. I think I'll try deleting the assets one at a time to see if it goes away...

 

Found it! It looks like an asset that had some old javascript Unity character controllers (CharacterMotor.js and FpsInputController.JS) in it was the problem. Removing both of these scripts removed the mysterious blank error. Thanks for your time though.

 

I'm the one with a very similar problem, a blank error with macOS Catalina + Unity 2017.4.
It would be very helpful if you could give me any more information about "some old javascript" like how you found the cause or what kind of code was it. Thank you.

 

First off, check to see if you had any of the older Standard Assets, like Unity character controllers and stuff like that. You can search in your project folder, and limit it to just scripts
