Serious question, any ETA when this will go out of beta?

Will it even go out of BETA? seems like new issues occur every new release...

As far as I understand it, Unity goes straight from Beta to LTS - and we got a new LTS version just this week.
So it should be roughly one year until the 2022 LTS.

EDIT: Nvm. I was really dumb

  3. ? No!

    LTS always becomes from the
    xxxx.2.yyf1
where xxxx is the year and yy is the last
    .2.
    version.
2022.1 beta will eventually become 2022.1.0f1 or something.

If I remember correctly last year the 2021.1 became tech release in March, so this year it probably will in April or early May tops. But there isn't a fix date to happen.

Probably will be out of beta in 1 or 2 weeks if they follow the usual schedule. They don't seem to follow the "stable" or "not stable" schedule anymore unless it is really bad. They will release after a bunch of betas even with tons of known bugs. Just check the "known bugs" section, which just keeps growing and it is always there even after beta turns into an official release. Right now they just move them out of beta on certain dates with less emphasis on the bug's status.

This is not necessarily bad. It's just the system they seem to follow now.

Well, they have a few HUGE bugs right now on b16. So unless they are 100% sure it's fixed, i doubt they would release. Otherwise it would be a poop show.

It will be released when it's ready, there's no point rushing something that's not ready for production use.

In Q2 or Q3 of 2022. If you don't want issues use 2021.3 LTS.

    If you don't want issue use ̶2̶0̶2̶1̶.̶3̶ ̶L̶T̶S̶ 2020 or Unity 5.
    Fixed this for you.

I had to update from 2020 lts to 2021.2 to get rid of rare il2cpp crash. So thanks but I get less issues in 2021.

I'm glad it is better for you.
2021.3f01 was plagued with bugs. Just check that thread.

    Hi.

Any chance you could do an interim beta release for us loyally testing out the betas? The inspector drawing bug is such a huge deterrent that it's almost impossible to seriously test the betas because of this.

    Thank you.

@TG1980 - You're not the only one asking. I haven't done any testing since b11 because of that inspector bug and I know several other devs in the same position. I'd be surprised if Unity got more than half their normal volume of bug reports since b12 mid-March...

If your talking about the list bug where the first item overdraws the ones below, I've been using a workaround to just re-order the list to edit the first item. Super annoying though!

Yeah me too but I'm ready to give up on it as I'm working on some editor tools etc. where I need to access the inspector all the time and I'm dreading to do it. And no workarounds seem to work if you are using [ManagedReference] items as those break rendering for more than just the first item :/

Maybe that IS their strategy... "Code quality went up so much we only got 50% of the normal volume of bug reports".

That bug isn't present in the 2022.2a builds, but there are some other serious bugs in the current alphas, so YMMV
