Unity originally made a blog post over half a year ago announcing Connected Games: https://blogs.unity3d.com/2018/08/02/evolving-multiplayer-games-beyond-unet/

The post shows late 2018 as the release date for the new Unity features.

That date has come and gone, and there have been no updates at all. What is the new target release date? This type of information has a big impact on game development, so Unity shouldn't keep developers in the dark.

Save yourself a load of grief and turn to Photon, or Mirror (community build of uNet), or ENet (reliable UDP with c# wrapper). You'll be old before another never finished attempt at networking from Unity is released.

    This ^^^

There's no reason to be waiting for Unity's next move, nor any reason to use a Unity provided network solution over another. Unity's track record with networking should leave everyone skeptical as it is.

Unity's history with networking is one of getting mostly functional but buggy/incomplete solutions out there, promising continued support, but not delivering. Unity's history with network services is to make them attractive at first glace, but don't document them well, and overprice them. Unity partnering with Google, and saying to use Google's current cloud pricing as a guide, means they are at least going to overprice their new offering (since Google cloud services cost significantly more than alternatives without Google's name recognition).
