I'm running the 2017.3 Unity Linux Beta version on Ubuntu 16.04. I tried opening a script with MonoDevelop, but it appears it didn't work. I next tried installing MonoDevelop, but that didn't work either. Any tips on how to get MonoDevelop working?
It seems Unity3D is moving away from 'MonoDevelop' according to this post. Perhaps you could use 'Visual Studio Code' instead. See https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/other/unity
in ubuntu. download monodevelop from sofware center, in unity editor go to edit > preferences > external tools change path external script editor to /usr/lib/monodevelop/bin/MonoDevelop.exe
Unity has replaced Mono-develop with visual studio. So may be you should replace it too to work without these problems. Here is some more information about it. https://www.hireunitydeveloper.com/unity-monodevelop-not-opening/
