Question Crashing when opening project, not sure what to make from Editor.log

    Hi guys, I've been trying to update my project to a 2020.2 beta version for two months now - every time I try I run into issues/errors. Today I decided to try a new approach and created an empty project in 2020.2.0b8, and then copied my Assets & ProjectSettings folders over from my original project.

    This seemed to work great, I ran the game several times with several scenes, even did a standalone build which ran great.

    But now the project is crashing when I try to open it. It gets to "Open Project >> Initialize Menu" and then crashes:

    I don't really know what to make of the log - which thing is the actual error?

    Is it the "Grouping invalid sprite. Removed sprite should have been sniffed out before reaching here." ? Or is it something above that?

    We also recently get a lot of crashes when opening the project and we also have a lot of sprite altases in our project, it looks a lot like your case:

    I already made a bug report but they still haven't been able to reproduce it. I'll check next time to see if removing them will solve the crash for us. That would at least narrow it down for the QA team.

    We have fixed the issue (also verified submitted project as usual). The fix will be available in

    2020.2 => 2020.2.0b13
    2021.1 => 2021.1.0a7

    After this fix on 2020.2.0b13 we haven't had any more crashes so at least it's fixed for us.
