I apologize for the possible off-topic. Guys, could you tell me which web hosting company you are using at the moment? I have a problem because my current web hosting company <some hosting company> is kicking me off. They say that our website is using too many server resources. But our website only gets 300 visitors per day.. Anyway, what would be your recommendations? Are you happy with your web hosting providers? I am checking <some other hosting company> at the moment, but is it real that they can provide unlimited disk space? I have contacted them and they say something like "1000GB disk drive costs only $30 per month, so if some day we will start running out of disk space we will simply add a new 1000GB drive so can continue uploading..". What do you think about it? Any ideas and web hosting company name suggestions are much appreciated. <post edited by a moderator [HiggyB]>
1and1.com, siteground.com, dreamhost.com All of these places offer packages with more space than you'll probably ever need for under $10 a month, in some cases, around $5/mo. I've used 1and1 and siteground for years and I'm happy with both services, never had a problem.
I personally used http://webair.com great group of guys, I have had many hosted/collocated servers their... Let them know that Gateway sent you, and you might get a special treat!
FWIW, this isn't a "Collaboration" post as it's not about a job and/or working with others in some way so I'm moving it to Gossip, thanks!
I do Not Recommend but I have been stuck with 3ix.com Horrible downtime and bs support; you get what you pay for. Need to find something still affordable and that actually works.. <post edited by a moderator [HiggyB] to remove links in the quoted post>
I love their website: "Nobody gives your more for less." Inspires a lot of confidence there.... Can't say I've had any major problems with Dreamhost. Occasionally the transfer speeds are a little slow, but that's with shared hosting so is expected. A while ago I was on a server that was starting to flake out, but they moved me to another one without any fuss and it's been fine since then. It's not really "unlimited" of course, it's overselling, but there's nothing particularly wrong with that, and they're totally upfront about it. --Eric
Followed by no phone number for the company and only "live chat", where compared to that ordering chinese food is like I grew up in china speaking it since day one. But hey, you live and learn; I will be changing soon, I am paid up till Aug..
I use Dreamhost and think they are excellent, plus they include quick and easy SVN setup with unlimited users and repositories in the base price. Unlimited bandwidth and space. Sometimes they have specials where they offer 1years hosting for $10. I took them up on their offer during the last basketball championship special they had last year. Never had a problem with them yet.
I wouldn't know about that; I communicated via email and had no problem getting prompt and professional/understandable replies. --Eric
One of the many that I have had logged as I have noticed there have been quite a few looking to have a class action lawsuit against the company. Little background story about this interaction; They doublecharged me, and none of the "chats" worked for about 2 days, with no phone number that you can reach, and the only one I have come across is a recording of a British sounding chap with a full voicemail. I was also pissed when writing this as well, as none of their responses are usually more then copy and pasted responses or poorly spelled broken english: "General Info Chat start time Feb 1, 2010 3:00:27 PM EST Chat end time Feb 1, 2010 3:14:47 PM EST Duration (actual chatting time) 00:14:19 Operator LiveHelp Chat Transcript info: Please wait for an operator to respond. info: You are now connected. Wait, I got confused there. I thought you were talking about Dreamhost but of course you're talking about 3ix. Sorry about that. I've never had any dealings with 3ix and will keep it that way.... --Eric
I have yet to deal with dreamhost, but I will give them a look over now, and perhaps if the money's right that will be the solution in August.
I believe the first post in this topic is called spam. No one logs in and posts their first and only "question" on a topic completely unrelated to the forums. Just sayin', iBrent
No, you're 100% correct. A mod should remove the link from the first post and ban the account, but the topic is actually kinda useful. --Eric
VERY useful. I thought at the time that dreamhost was just as bogus as the rest of them, as their site looked rather generic and bogus like the host I was using, but now I know otherwise and this post has become rather invaluable. I am quite curious as to how other people have made out in regards to hosts across the net, or perhaps if there are some decent host maybe someone can add to the "OK List" and we could all be more the wiser. I have a feeling that either two things will happen with "unlimited" hosting advertisers, once you use a decent amount of bandwith they will shut you down, or their servers will keep crapping out and will annoy not only the user but also the owner of the site (Meeeeeeee).....
I use Hostgator. It's more expensive but then you get what you pay for. I've been with hostagtor for my site for 4 years and have had no problems with downtime, slow speeds etc. Previous to that I was with Powweb who were good until their sql db servers slowed to a crawl. I left after that pretty quickly as it seemed they weren't interested in fixing the issue or it was just taking too long to fix. If I can tell you one company to avoid like the plague is FastHosts. Never been with a worser host than them. They are sneaky and take money from your account even after you have finished with them. AVOID!
I guess it just didn't trigger with me yesterday, I've edited the first post and have disabled the user account for now.
