Your thoughts: Apple Will Force Apps to Ask for OK Before Tracking Users

    Read the above. Essentially, this will affect Ads. So curious if/when this will go ahead, what will this mean for you and how will you deal with it? We can't make games/apps for nothing. Back to premium? Force player to buy the app if they refuse the ads?

    Trying to think ahead now before it hits.

    Two thoughts. One, Apple isn't killing advertisements. Apple is simply enforcing the rules of the EU's GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) that have been in effect for more than two years on a platform-wide scale.

    Two, since this is merely an extension of the GDPR I don't see how this is a problem unless you completely neglected to implement the requirement that (a) people have to provide consent for data collection, (b) all data collected has to be anonymous, and (c) people can simply ask to be forgotten and everything will be deleted for them.

    Like the poster above said, it is already the case with gdpr and major mobile advertisers already have apis to show ads without tracking the sensitive user data.

    Yea, if the user opts out, the ads (if the game/app has them) will just be generic instead of targeted.
