    Hello everyone :)

First time poster here, I thought I would share the progress we're making my brother and I on our first 3D game (and first multiplayer game).

Info: We're using Unity LTS 2021.3.25f, we're both on Mac, and this is the built-in render pipeline.

Update: The game now has a steam page https://store.steampowered.com/app/1871460/Beasts_of_Steel/

    And now, the screenshots! :)

British machine gunner waiting for german infantry to cross the road...

    On the assets used:
    • Amplify Impostors for vehicles / weapons when seeng from afar
    • MicroSplat for all everything related to terrain
    • Vegetation Studio Pro (Now deprecated) for all the vegetation instancing + placing
    • EasyRoads 3D for the roads/paths
    • All weapons/vehicles were bought on CGTrader
    • All vegetation was made by hand by my brother
    • Vegetation shadering handled by TVE (The Vegetation Engine)

The game uses Photon Pun2 for multiplayer, we are a bit limited at the moment due to the framework being old and not really made to support 128 players, but at least you can play with bots with up to 128 players in solo. Multiplayer final number still TBD because we need to do more extensive testing.

Trees and other vegetation items are destroyable (by explosions or driving over with tanks).
    Terrain supports runtime craters generation.

The game supports seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter) with visual changes to terrain + vegetation

I'm currently migrating from the old input system to the new one to support controllers. It's going well.

The game is translated in 10+ languages.

Time worked on this: 2 years

If you have any question, feel free to ask! Especially code-wise :)

That looks really nice for sure! :)

I just wonder ... how is that British machine gunner holding the gun? Seems like there's something missing. ;)

    Thanks! :D

Haha, currently we do not have full humanoid bodies, we're using the good ol' beans ;) Hence the missing hand :)

I'm having a very hard time understanding how full IK and rigging works... That's like the hardest thing

That looks beautiful. I've followed your progress from far since several years now. I remember back in the days when you had a sketchfab account with a few ww2 model, that is how I spotted your project (this and kado3D cgtrader reviews, ahah, I'm messing with WW2 assets myself). But I only realize you had a youtube channel with small devblogs this year. Nice to see it emerging into an actual game, I did not think you were that advanced.

For technical questions, I would have several, especially on Armor penetration system, and tanks and planes handling in general. The fact it is multiplayer is extremely impressive, for a one programmer game.

I also like the infantry gameplay, it feels nice on videos. What games inspired you? This seems more similar to Post Scriptum / Hell Let loose gameplay (multi crew, static buildable guns, etc.) than a COD one.

And the art looks great. I'm glad someone managed to get Kado assets in such a gorgeous environment (I only know easy red 2 that did it for now). Congrats to your brother for the vegetation. But I have not seen many buildings, do you plan to make those?

Anyway, please keep us posted on your progress on YouTube, I'm looking forward to the release.

    Thank you very much!

I do not think that was me, I do not believe I ever had a sketchfab account and I surely never made any 3D modelling, hahaha

Yeah I got everything from him LOL, and planes from Mark Rowles, if you know him

Thanks! If you'd like to play test the game now and get a better feel, please join the discord server: https://discord.gg/Tn63mrwJyH
We are running a closed beta right now with the release of the steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1871460/Beasts_of_Steel/

I played maybe one game of HLL, about the same for PS, I didn't really like either
I did play a ton of Red Orchestra : Stalingrad and that is my model right now, with some BF1 / 5 in the mix.

Buildings will come later, right now we focused on vegetation, my brother is alone working on all the environment it's really not easy to do everything at once haha, but we plan on having more urban environments in the future...

Will do! Right now, the page is out on steam :)
