Many game developers struggle and maybe you have too, so please only provide advice and encouragement in your responses to this thread.

Then if you or another game developer who is struggling can read this thread and feel inspired to keep going.

So what advice would you give to a struggling game developer?

If you have to force yourself to do something, there's probably a good reason not to do it. And there are no rewards that can make up for self-sacrifice, except for achieving your goal, so don't bother looking for them elsewhere.

I believe anyone can learn anything, given enough practice and dedication.

If this fails, there are other ways to make money. So have fun and enjoy the ride.

Find others to discuss your passion with. Knowing there are others out there going through it too can help you go on.

Don't give up. Even if you don't make it big, even if you think your game isn't original/ beautiful/ polished/ fun/ commercial/ innovative/ good enough, keep in mind that there will always be people who will like your game and that you brought this bit of joy into their life. And you can be proud of that.

What I believe to be a major cause of giving up is not finding out the exact purpose of why you are making your game. For this I mean "Why are you building this exact game instead of another game?". The more specific you are the better. A counter example of why this works is if you think the purpose of your game is to make you money, you will likely give up because there are easier ways to make money. Finding a reason for making your game that pertains only to that game can help keep you motivated to complete the game and thus achieving your goal.

Never give up unless you've lost all interest and joy in your project.

And keep your aims on a realistic scale, set some reachable milestones to approach the final result step by step.
Each milestone is like a small achievement on a long journey, that will not only mark a certain state of completion, but also represents an important moment to realize what you've achieved, how you have improved. And this will usually strengthen your will and motivation to keep going for the next milestone. ;)

Found this quote today and I love it so much.
