Would you suggest Unity for...

Hi guys,

I'm a programmer looking into learning how to build apps. I'm interested in using Unity, and have been through a few tutorials.

The thing is, I'm still not clear on weather or not Unity will do what I want to do. I'm looking to create an app like Endless Alphabet:

. It's simple programming, but heavy on animation.

I'm just not clear if the best way is to import movie files, OR create characters that I can animate...doesn't seem to be a nice graphic solution, OR import animation sprites...lots and lots of them, OR use another platform.

I'm a poor man, so I need a good free solution. I'm in love with Unity, just not clear on the vision yet.

Any...I mean ANY help, would be so much appreciated!
