[work-in-progress] Socketed Spaceships for top-down RTS or action games

    Are you creating an RTS, MOBA, or action-based space game? I'm currently creating a set of spaceships that feature modular sockets that players can populate with a variety of different turrets and similar devices. For example, cannons, cloaking devices, drone bays, or shield generators. This variety should help a developer adapt this art pack to suit his needs. Interested? Leave a comment or suggestion!

    Below, we see the A'Tuin Class Carrier ship, which features a large hangar bay. Developers may wish to give this spacecraft an enhancement to drone fighters launched from this ship, or give it higher armor or slower movement.

    Below is a preliminary set of three possible cannon models. Each comes in a 'basic' and 'advanced' version. I plan to include multiple designs for each turret, so that a developer is free to choose the one he likes best (or simply use all of them).

    Below is a choice of three Drone Bay designs. These turrets will launch small attack craft to protect the ship (these drones have yet to be modeled). zgdronebaysample1.jpg

    I love them! The only thing I can think of that could be changed is the tiled texture in some parts. They have a woody feel which clashes with sci-fi.

    I think it's mainly these parts that look like wood.



    I'm not sure how to describe it, but it reminds me of these .

    These cannons look great! They're unique enough to serve different roles but they're all part of the same theme. Together, they can work really well.

    Updated the A'Tuin Carrier's color variations to reflect the changes to the original textures and established a unified palette for all future color variations.

    The turrets, generators, and other such devices in this pack will all sit upon a common rotating platform, which in turn will plug into any socket the developer (or player) chooses. I've now added textures to the various sockets and the platform plugs.

    I've also added some color variants for the sockets/plugs. I decided to go with metallic colors this time around to contrast better with the primary color variations of the ships and turrets.

    The sockets look very nice - especially with the gunmetal texture. Another variation that might be interesting: black with yellow stripes on the edges to represent danger/power.

    That's a cool idea. I think I'll go back and add more texture requests after the pack's release, so please feel free to make suggestions.

    Finished modeling a few designs for space stations. These stations each have a different 'core' and feature a common selection of components that can be used as upgrades. In addition, I've included a 'mini base' that can be used as scenery or an objective if your game requires capture points. I plan to add textures to these models next.
