Hello there! This is a game I've been working on for a little over a month now and I wanted to get some feedback from people that aren't close friends or family.

The Deer is a simple horror game that is loosely based off the skinwalker legend and an encounter my friend had with one of these creatures. It's a long story, but in a nutshell he encountered a deer while hiking where it was watching him on it's hind legs peaking from behind a tree making a very creepy whistling sound. The skinwalker aspect is based from similar reddit stories but more pertaining to the skinwalker legend.

In the game, the player will play the role of a hunter who happens to be hunting while this creature in the woods. Depending on where you choose to go will effect how the game ends. It's not nearly as in-depth as games like Until Dawn or Tell-Tale games. Just simple triggers that will define what happens next.
The deer will not be a horror game monster that will constantly attack and chase the player, it's more mysterious and will watch from the sidelines. It will also mimic sounds and other things to lure the player, even acting like a regular old deer.

The map is split into quadrants. Each quadrant is designed to be unique and provide an interesting gameplay experience. For example: one of the quadrants is based off of a swamp in my area. The map is based off of the northern Minnesota area, because that's where I live.

Because I am not good at scripting, I am using Playmaker for this game. I've managed to create a working FPS Rifle for the standard asset controller and I've made a simple AI system. I'm still learning Playmaker, but I do enjoy using it so far.

I apologize if I didn't describe the game that well, I'm not good at putting things into words...
Let me know what you guys think or if you have any suggestions!

Nice progress. Consider toning down the 'yellow' in the post effects. It appears overly yellow in both images above.

Thanks, I take a gander at the post effects. Now that you point it out, it is a little overly yellow.

So I have a quick update.
The game is nearing completion and I plan to release the game on steam this June.
I decided to redesign most of the game because I had new ideas and stuff. It still follows most things I said before, but it's a brand new map and some different gameplay. I incorporated the Horror FPS Kit in the game, but it is heavily modified to meet my needs and I made a bunch of custom things for it using playmaker. I'm not good at scripting so I thought it wouldn't be a bad thing to use a kit as a template from the asset store.
Here's a nice little picture I put together to show off the new map a bit.

I've played both actually. They were inspirations to some ideas revolving this game.

Oh boy, it's been a while...but it's time to dust of the cobwebs. The Deer is nearing a demo release this summer. A major redesign was done since I last posted here, and I mean major. The whole story, the way it plays, pretty much everything. I'm to lazy to update OP right now so with that said, I made a website where I will be releasing biweekly devlogs. The first one was posted earlier today, check it out!

My first impression of the game is "Hey, that's something i would like to play!".
I really like the light and atmosphere in the screenshots.
Without reading the thread and looking at the first title image i thought that's a horror game! The eyes of the deer and the whole atmopshere turned out really good!
I think this game could become quite popular especially in America.

Looking forward for a gameplay video which hopefully confirms the good first impression!

It was more as a joke " Wip/rip" and it seams like the game was about hunting/killing the deer, so " rip deer" :p

Thank you! I'll get some gameplay in one of the upcoming devlogs, maybe even the next one!

    Oh I see! I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Spent some time tonight designing just some art. Devlog #3 is looking really good with the amount of topics and stuff I'm covering. Lots of cool and exciting changes!

The dear really still scares the s***t out of me! The first image with the deer holding a box was scary but this one ... If you continue to make such scary art i wont be brave enough to play your game... Just joking:p
I have read your devlogs (1 and 2) and i think your game really looks promising. I am looking forward to devlog 3!!!
