WIP Small Works Art Thread

    A side project/prototype thing. Wanted to try pixel art for a change. I wrote a small blog post about it, there's also a webplayer if you're interested :)

    WOOOH! in celebration of being published on the unity asset store i'm making an update to my toon halloween prop pack:

    Really good coloration of wood and metal, and also nice specularity. Is that Unity render? Looks like some physical based shading going on.

    So I decided to try out some straight out drawing in Gimp. First time, and I did a knight. Very happy with the way it turned out! :D

    You can probably hear quite a bit of Yoko Shimomura's influence in this one, and it's there.

    Loving the colour palette, what would be nice to see is some more little 'glistening' touches. for example having the clouds move in the background or some form of overlay to bring the rest of the scene in motion. The bounciness of the character and pickups are super cute whilst the rest of the scene is very stagnant. Not sure if this is intentional but either way its looks great!

    Thanks :D And yes I totally agree, there will definitely be more detail in the final game. Actually the first level is supposed to be a forest so there's still a lot missing like trees, bushes, flowers, mushrooms, more types of collectible fruits,...

    I might add another scrolling layer, there was one in an earlier version but it caused slowdown on an old tablet of mine because he couldn't handle the amount of overdraw... The tablet has a resolution of 1280x800 but doesn't have enough power to fill the whole screen at 60fps and at this moment the movement of the player and all other objects it tied to the framerate (can't multiply by deltaTime cause that would break pixel perfection, the position of the objects must be integer values at all time).

    I came up with an idea to fix this though and with that I'll be able to add another layer and more details without the need to worry, it'll just run less smooth on old devices (30fps instead of 60fps) but that's a lot better than slow motion ;)

    Cool skyboxes Mancuso! Where are you generating these? Vue? Is it a pain getting an HDR / EXR panorama out of it?

    hi all,
    I'm a beginner on Unity, and i'm about to create terrain of my first scene (FPS game). What is the best strategy ? Create terrain from scratch in unity ? Or create landscape in 3dsmax, then import it to unity ? I'd like you to know that i want a detailed landsape close to the camera (LOD), can i give unity 3 versions of my landsape (low tri resolution, mid, and high) and can he automatically switch some parts according to the distance of the camera?

    Hi VF, I used Terragen 3 Pro. It can export, bmp, tif, EXR and there is a spherical output option.

    Thanks a lot :D I'm quite happy with how it looks so far though at other times I think it looks really plain... ^^' But I'm working on it, here's a little update

    Adding some more scenery to make it look more like a forest, still needs flowers and bushes and smaller trees (and the background is a draft so still needs work too) :)

    Reminds me of SNES times. Looks great! Though maybe add a little detail to those brown ground tiles? Looks a little flat at the moment. Even if it's a tiny bit of detail- just something to break it up.

    Hey guys;:) I'm Daniel and I am working on a 3D model pack for the Asset Store, this is my first post on the unity forums and I'm just putting my foot in to test the waters.

    Here you can see I'm working on a urban, security, industrial type pack.

    I have not put the barbed wire at the top yet so ignore that.

    Here is some screenshots of my work so far:

    As you can see I have a small problem with the seams. any advice?

    optimise geometry and remove unnecessary polygons. or edit smooth grops. or check seams at texture.

    Yeah, the shape of the poles are just all wrong and the texure is not a very good one (those seams are from the texture) nor is it accurate.

    Chain link fences have tube shaped poles, and poles that run along the top and sometimes the middle.


    Also, the links have an extra twist on the top. So to look good, you'll want another texture for the trim.

    Yeah, the Fence i was thinking of was like this: fenceref.jpg , and the twist at the top, hmm, i didn't make the texture I got it off of CGtextures. Any idea where i could find one?

    Also I'll probably be doing a complete remodel, I'm not happy with the quality yet.
