Looks great! I was going to comment on it having too much polys but, seeing that this model will be in the player's face upclose, it deserves that level of detail.

This is going to be a prop on a character model :)

This is not for a FPS... it is a prop that I should make a lower level of detail for, but it is not too heavy for my game... (making a 1 on 1 fighting game)

    Thanks, dude!

Here's my latest painting as of this afternoon. I seem to be going down a very metroid prime-esque route.... eep. Anyway, have some yellow!

@Fishman92: Your work is getting alot better, this is most noticable in this last image! I would sugest going in with a smaller brush and doing some details and clean up as at the moment it's abit blurry.

I would suggest that you do some value studies next, as this will help with form. Keep up the good work!

@janpec: Your stuff is great as usual!

    @Neptune_Imaging: Nice gun!

@Carlo Monzini : That looks really nice! Very clean well done!

Your art is so awesome man!!
I don't know why, but this particular pic, because of the lighting/shading... reminds me of pascal blanche!

    Thanks a lot :) That's a huge compliment
The props for the lighting/shading goes to mike nash. It's pretty much exactly his setup.

    I've worked a bit on his "face...thing". It's disgusting

Jesus Christ why would you do that to us!?

That is really terrifying. Reminds me of the creeps I used to get when I'd look at the artwork in the scary stories to tell in the dark illustrations.

... Oh god why did I look it up!?

Yeah. He started as some kind of Slenderman but I liked how his eyes came out.
Maybe he's more of a "containment breach" type of guy. I'l put him in the store when he is finished
Should be interesting to see, what people come up with :)

@KheltonHeadley Hey that looks really good, it would be very interesting to see small forest scene all that lushy. Are those leaves all single planes? Maybe one thing you could change is your normal map looks little too strong on leaves, makes details too much poping out becouse it was created from color map. It would be much better if you would be using normal map extracted from high poly mesh instead.

    Just example:
    High poly mesh

Normal map, rendered it could be with UVs, or just rendering screen from top view.

Thanks, forest is wip. All the leafs are planes. As for the normal maps, haha. I fixed that, I noticed it looks like small canyons instead of veins on a leaf, really ruined the effect, it looks much better now but I won't post results until I finish the entire scene. I used a high poly leaf to make the normal maps like you said. I also fixed up the lighting with AO to make it less dark.

@Florian you could use skin shader for head, it would probably look even more organic.

    thanx guys !

    It's just a 3dsMax viewport screengrab.
I will render a couple of artworks with skin shading, He's going to be a realtime model anyway. Maybe I'll find a good DX9 skin shader :)

I'm just learning blender and decided to try my hand at an Ugly Doll type character. It's rough but it's a start. :) Blender is fun just wish I had more time in the day.

Modeled in Blender and rendered in Cheetah 3D.

Im practicing on improving my realistic texturing and human modeling so I made Low Poly Bill Cosby :)

finished bill cosby model, ready for pudding!

lol, its pretty goofy looking and the texturing is not the best looking but I like the way it came out. also I was not modeling it after bill cosby, I just thought it looked like him after finishing so I call it Low poly Cosby.

You can't go for realism if the proportions are off and It's super low poly(unless you bake it with normals). Doesn't look real at all, you should improve. It's good practice though, good luck.

well Im not exactly trying to go for super realistic like current gen games have. not photo-realistic, Im trying to just make realistic like human game characters. Its hard for me to explain the kind of style im going for. Its realistic but only for a game character in a realistic like low poly world. Im not sure if im explaining this right so I need some picture examples.

Lets look at older GTA games for example, the character models they used especially for the main character were realistic human like characters, they looked realistic but only for the games they were in.

look at this, look at the first three characters from the picture. Do those look like realistic game character models?
yes they do. They look like human characters. but would these be acceptable as realistic in our real life world? I dont think so.
yeah their overall mesh shape is a lot more human shape and realistic than mine up there but other things like the face and shape do not look like what we see in real life.

things like face features look flat. For the hands it looks like there is 5 fingers but really the mesh for the hands is maybe about 2-3 separate fingers.

another example photo, if I took this character directly out of the game and placed him in our world looking the way he does he would not fit in at all, he looks nothing like a realistic human placed in our world.

This is the type of realistic style I am trying to go for. Low poly realistic like humans, but only realistic in their game world.

I am not trying to go for something like this
    (Solid snake/ old snake MGS4)

That is a crazy amount of detail and I would say that is a very realistic looking human even if placed in our real world. But thats not the type of realism I want to go for. It would be very nice to be able to go for something like that in the future but at the moment ill stick to what im doing now. then maybe when I get better I will try "real" realistic. Im not sure if you understand what I tried to explain. Its kind of weird, I guess its more of a personal type of view that I have. haha.

    :)

But you have to remember, the first two characters were made based off limitations of the current gen consoles. But I understand what you're saying and the style, It's what I'm going for.

Some more fun with textures... messing around in XNormal to render my characters details... there is symmetry since most of him is mirrored to increase details. I also finally learned about batch rendering in xNormal, setting it up was a breeze. The model will now go thru the texturing process... I will be using Zbrush for this...

    $Blade%20Xnormal%203.jpg $Blade%20Xnormal%204.jpg

And his wireframe since you guys will ask for it...

Neptune_Imaging that is amazing! great job. I can't compete with that haha.

Heres a character im currently working on. Its still a WIP but I really like how the mesh came out, I think its probably my best mesh yet. The mesh is finished, This is just a quick texture I put on, Im going to change/improve it. Im going to use this character in a project in the future. but still needs some work.:)
