Thanks ! Me too. She could make a great main character. Okay, not for my 50's adventure but i'll somehow force her in my sci-fi project :D

Cool terrain chronos78 i like how saturated colors are. By the way why would you add emission map to terrain?

I'd like to see a game with graphics like that that actually looks like that as well as moving.. an artistic style, rather than hard-edged pixel-precice triangles.

Couldn't agree more. I loved the time when triangles was just an option beside voxels and other promising experiments.
But even if such a soft look could be done with shaders and post fx, it would probably be tricky in a game when you need to focus specific elements.

    A small WIP - a puppet.
I must rig it now, hopefully by 2015 it will be ready.

Added splat mapping with up to 4 detail maps plus a cliff texture. The detail and cliff maps fade out at a configurable distance and falloff from the camera to reveal the underlying diffuse texture and hide obvious tiling. Definitely going to have to come up with a better workflow for painting splats though. Pulling them directly from the terrain generator results in to much overlapping for production use, probably will end up hand painting them in Mudbox.

    $terrainTest02.png

Before any one gets upset the grass and rock textures are borrowed temporarily from the internet to help with shader development, tired of looking at the Unity default ones.

So far I'm happy with how this is coming along, still 1 draw call and still using shader model 2.0. Though it'll have to go shader model 3 once I start adding specular mapping into the mix. Any c&c are welcome and appreciated.

Really nice! Is that a World Machine terrain? And is the shader your own creation?

"hide obvious tiling" - Sooo important. There are terrain engines from ten years ago that would manage this, but recently in otherwise great graphic presentations in games like Skyrim, I see the tiling creeping back in again. Really damages the look to have a vast grassy valley looking like a rug pattern, IMO.

Will you be able to add grass detail meshes to this scene?

Thanks, I'm having a lot of fun with this project.

Yes this is my own custom shader and yes it is a world machine terrain. Well partially at least. Parts of it are done in Mudbox, Photoshop, and Maya. I got the initial idea from watching this video series:

But for my purposes outputting to a height map to use as the basis of a Unity terrain was not an option. So my work flow is to output as meshes that can then be streamed and stitched together in game. The terrain mesh in this first test is still a bit rough as can easily be seen by all the pointy peaks, a production mesh would have to be gone over much more carefully.

Most definitely. These early tests are just to see how good I can make the underlying terrain look. Once that is done it will get rocks, grass, bushes, trees, etc. All the things one would expect from a modern game.

Very nice and inspiring terrain you got there, love this fantasy-scotland style terrains, similar the ones from Wendas terrain series.

Yup, saw his series over on polycount and it was the main ispiration for the terrain on this project. Only major differences is the use low poly meshes instead of using the engine's built in terrain system and I'm striving for a more fantasy hand painted look. Think Torchlight, WildStar or WoW just much Much MUCH smaller. This is at present just a tech demo for my own amusement not the next WoW killer. ;)

Yeh indeed it it inspirational and if you can get terrain like that made its certainly great. There is one great disadvantage in terrain making though...which is that it takes freaking long time to get all this WM, Mudbox, Photoshop hassle going, few days of hard work for detailed terrain or more...

Going to start off the new year with my newest original character. :)

    Here is Midnight Pillow:

He is an alien from the moon.
was going to use him in my current toon game project but I think I will save him for a future project. The one I will use my other alien character model I made recently to.

Ah, and that was the exact tutorial that led me to World Machine when I had to do some terrain for a video project; here's what I came up with in that case:

It's a cool program. I've not had a chance to try and get terrain into Unity yet, though. Dying to, but can't find the time!

ok dev screenshot of the night.
Grill is working, guess we can make burgers now.

I tend to work on my game projects late at night because I feel more focused and theres no distractions like there is during the day time
Feel like I actually can get a good amount of work done during my late night game dev sessions :)

Thats quite epic Florian. Very good atmosphere, this could also be totaly turned into 3d in Unity, would be even better. Keeping same painted skybox, terrain with grass as it is and rock in middle.

Awesome, Florian. Love how the chick is quite subtle at first glance.

Shamelessly cross posting some new stuff from my thread:

    Safety first!

    Transatlantic cap and goggles.

    P-1000 cybernetic eye.

Ironic glasses, hat and summer scarf.

You are VERY lucky that i saw your post, i literally didn't visit this forum for at least 5-6 months and now i wanted to look around what people are doing and i find you. What a coincidence!
Anyway, i don't have the .psd file anymore and as you said the link i posted is dead... but i tried to make a .png image so you can easily cut off the icons you want to use.

And yes, you can use them as i never finished my project :)

Hey guys, I have been on vacation for a while, but I'm back now, and I'm still willing to improve my skills with character modeling, so here is a WIP of a Mewtwo. Yes I know about copy rights etc, this is 100% use for training purposes, never going inside a game, unless someone wants it '-'.

    Triangle count : 4056

    $WIP 2.png

    Still to do :
    - Optimize ( essentially reduce poly count ).
    - Texture + Normal.
    - Rig.

1 question, I did a quick research on it, and didn't found anything usefull. In blender, is there a way of turning various connected vertices into an Edge Loop ?

    Thanks.

    - Rafael.

I'm jealous. You see, I wanna be the very best, that no one ever was. To catch them is my real test; to train them is my cause. I will travel across the land, searching far and wide, looking to understand the power that's inside...

Fairly quick Pilot model, not worth posting on the main thread. Still a bit of work to do, other texture maps, facial rigging, overall polish, etc... but i really just wanted to get on with other things. Character creation is far from my strong point but what can you do, I've gotten into sculpting more recently so still learning all the tricks. He's around 5k Tris btw, dem sideburns :p

Got an Intuos Pro for Christmas. After a few problems with getting the bundled Photoshop elements that came with it and being distracted by the steam sales, I finally got around to doing something with it.
