Really nice looking scene Rafael. I like the style it has. That weird character mesh thingy is kinda creepy and seems outta place with everything else, but other than that, it looks great! :)

Hahahha, that creepy thing is my second test at sculpting a human, while sculpting him, I started messing around and... well.. placed legs on his backs :D.

It's just a placeholder for now, I was testing normal maps with him. But I plan on making a little enemy creature. Even if this does not turn out into a little game.

    And also, Thanks Snow hahah.

Nice Orc. I can't wait to see more limbless designs, especially less humanoid ones.

Looks great Florian. Do you work with UDK as well?

Heh well be thankful he has pants on, would be harder to explain otherwise:D

Looks good Florian, first screen has too much bloom though of skin, second one is better one.

Hahaha!. To calm your wife down...a female boobed webplayer is on the way :D If that doesn't help...his name is Ryan Terry

Haven't worked with UDK for years. It's of course the better package but it always felt it's made for huge teams doing huge games.
I doing mostly smaller projects and unity just felt right. But I have to admit, that it's sometimes disappointing, if you buy gfx features in the store to push unity to UDKs visual level and see the performance drastically fall apart, if your project grows.

    Nice sculpt!

    @Florian
Yeah bring on the female webplayer :)

And I agree with you. Unity's performance unfortunately can be a problem when you try to push it's graphical limits. Still enough for smaller scaled games IMO.

This line right here, makes me sad :'(

Playing around with Skin Shaders again... this took a bit of time to get the look and feel I was going for... softer and fleshier skin...

First positive result at character modeling, I'm pretty happy with the results, even knowing that it's still horrible, lol. My problem here was the UV mapping part, the modeling was easy, texturing could have been easier and more detailed but the uv is just horrible and I can't get it right...

You don't got to be sad.
Unity is definitely capable of doing a great looking 3D fighting game as you show us here frequently :)
I just wouldn't build a GTA/Skyrim like game with next-gen graphics with it. It would simply fail there. I mean we don't even have a 64bit editor yet.

    But back on topic.

Even it's just a simple room, it's still damn fine looking Florian.

    @Rafael
Looks good for your first positive result. I just think her eyes placed too close to each other.
Rule of thumb is: There should be enough space between the eyes, for a third eye.

Thanks. And yeah, thats the spirit ! Great visuals don't need to be huge like Skyrim...and that doesn't mean "journey" or "the witness" great visuals.
Unity can totally look next gen on smaller scales. It's just a matter what type of game you are aiming at and plan it carefully.
If you are going for a two player beat'm up...you can have 50K poly fighters, "expensive" skin shader, real motion blur, fancy lighting and in the end, nicer screens than Crysis. All the tech is there...I just wouldn't push the beat'm up to be a "Ryse"
But well...If Unity doesn't solve this, the hardware power soon will :)

True... Getting a little tired of these Out of Memory errors...

Bak on topic... not a bad start rafael... definitely continue focusing on the forms of the head and body... and also use references.

My word, that is a pretty room!

    Thanks!

Did some more on it just now, woke up thinking it looked more silly than menacing.

Marco: The horns make it look a little "generic devil"-y, but the other changes to the face definitely make it more menacing (and the fact that it isn't pink anymore haha)

    Cheers for the crit!

Yeah, I agree, I'll have to make them agree with the more angular lines of the face when I next have a go at it!

    Thanks again :)

Yup thats about it. Thankfully i agree with that 100% only by now since we have Skyshop+few GI solutions, a year ago could be different story.

As for box projections what are they used for? I assume they work only with boxes since they are called that way, but what can they be used for except boxed lights in interiors?

That's because that character was my concept art haha, I just did a quick google search of a concept art and she was the best one I could find.

They project the reflection based on a defined box shape. Sounds limited but if used very subtle, they are by far a better alternative to a generic cubemap reflecting random stuff. "Remember me" made massive use of it but they also solved some obvious problems with additional tech, like reflecting image proxies, blends between cubes and reflection blockers etc.
I will do some tests, to see how the transition works visually between rooms and corridors in a more realistic case...

What I would love to see would be a timelapse sculpt from any of you mad guys. I mean, Jesus.

Even made me try out zBrush, since I feel it would be a nice addition to my (Low/Highpoly projection lacking) Cinema 4D centered workflow, but frankly I have no idea what I'm doing. Fun as all hell though. Ima go and see if I can get this lady back into C4D and rig her up. And give her some clothes. Maybe.

I noticed that when you stare at one of the walls in the indented sections without lights that the wall slowly turns really bright.
Do you think that is an error with Skyshop or maybe some conflict with your post-process setup?

None of that. The standard "adaptive reinhard auto white" tonemapper...I should have tweaked the settings but so far, it's expected behavior. It just brightens the screen, until it finds white. If the whole screen is dark, the whole screen turns white. Looks indeed a bit weird but nothing skyshop related.

I'm totally going to post this in another thread, but I saw something about a community manager for Mighty No. 9 who created a genderswap of Megaman (Rockman in Japan), and got holy hell for it.

Because I am a troll who is good at what he does (trolling, certainly not art), I created my own version of Rockgirl.

    Cheers!

    Thanks, man!

    Here's the topo:

Normally I'd use all quads, but I wanted to tuck in some extra loops in parts of the brow and other places to give me some more control, so there are a couple of triangles here and there. Also, since it was a retopo of a sculpt I also had no intention of subdividing it later.

    Thank you, kind sir!

    Here's a webplayer

    Some notes:
    - All the BlendShapes are symmetrical at the moment
    - There's no mouth bag
    - There are no limits or conditions set up yet, so the EyesWideOpen BlendShape can fight with the EyesClosed one and so on. Also CheeksPuff probably shouldn't occur when the mouth is open.
    - Top set of teeth might be a little too low.

Let me know what you think! You'll mostly get really odd expressions but sometimes you get a couple in a row that look natural which makes you feel like a superhero.

I'll record the next step of that demon thing if you like, I'm not an amazing artist by any means though. I'd also love to see a timelapse of some of Florian or dogzerx' sculpts!

Cool start on that chick. Don't be afraid to bust out some reference and get those curves going!
    Keep it up!

Wish I was quick enough to sceenshot all the nice ones. Love especially the subtle ones where she purses her lips more or less like this one

Just look at that adorable face, there definitely need to be more subtle ones, the overly expressive ones make her look like a Disney villain :D Such a versatile rig.

And then there was one where she opened her eyes and mouth more and more. Looked like she's witnessing the second coming or something.

Yes please. Will watch all the sculpts. Until then I'll go see if I can exaggerate my lady then.

p.S.: Yes one day I want to be an not amazing artist like that too
