Hey guys! I'm here to introduce you to my current project, Semblock.
Semblock is an illusion based puzzle game, where by making use of illusions,
you can solve puzzles which initially may have appeared impossible.

    What is Semblock?

As mentioned, Semblock is an illusion based puzzle game. If a move looks like it can be made, it can.
By moving around blocks, you can create, destroy and use various illusions in an attempt to power all the gems in each level.

    The game so far
A fair amount of work has gone into the game so far, and levels are completely playable. Blocks can be moved throughout the puzzle in attempt to power the gems. The movements of blocks are not restricted to what you would expect however, using illusions, you can make moves which if you were to look at from any other angle, would look completely impossible!

    The blocks

Currently there are 15 types of blocks in the game, and they create an insane amount of flexibility already, although I intend to add more types of blocks to the game to even further increase the variety of puzzles that can be created. The yellow blocks can be moved around on 'flat' surfaces. I won't go into what each of the other blocks do, I'll let you discover that as you follow along!

    The editor
This feeds into the next big area of the game, the level editor. Everyone will be able to make their own levels, to share with their friends and the rest of the world.

    Target Platform

Semblock currently is being developed primarily for Android and iOS, and then potentially branch into both the PC and console markets if there's enough demand.

I think you need a video because the screenshots just leave me feeling confused.

Also the character or whatever they are really really need a graphical upgrade.

I completely agree, there are currently two videos up on the facebook page (the last two statuses). I am uploading to youtube now too though, so I can embed them here.

Also there is no character as such, the player drags blocks around. That being said, graphics has been one of the things I'm still contemplating which direction to take with. There's still a while to go!

to be blunt it looks like a less fun, less polished version of monument valley.

I am doing my best to stand out as a purely puzzle, challenge driven game. I actually initially started off with a project like Monument Valley in mind, however after a month of development, I had to take a break from uni workload, and when I came back to the project, Monument Valley had just been released, and to ensure Semblock was it's own type of game, I started again, cutting back on the artistic side of the project to concentrate on it's current, flexible core mechanics.

Semblock is designed to have a virtually unlimited number of levels, allowing for an endless game play, freedom to create levels, and the ability to have levels for all skill levels. The difficulty of levels it's possible to create in Semblock ranges from extremely simple puzzles to ridiculously difficult ones, for people with skill levels beyond that targeted by games like Monument Valley. Although I do see value in a theme / story (and there's a chance Semblock will get one), I'm not going for a set number of easier, artsy puzzles like Monument Valley provides; it's a different genre.

Also, polish will come with development, it is still WIP :)

Hopefully clarifying how Semblock isn't trying to be like Monument Valley will help clear things up. They both have illusions, and Monument Valley has some puzzle elements, but that's really it.

Monument valley is a puzzle game, not just some elements. Some of the puzzles are pretty tricky and clever. The new levels are actually better IMO.

Anyway that is my impression watching the videos and I am sure the general punter would think something similar.

Thanks for the feedback, I didn't mean to deny that there are decent puzzles in it, simply it's not catering for players who a never ending puzzle experience. Would you have any suggestions that could help me emphasize a distinction?

Well I still can't really see the distinction in the same way as you.

I watched the videos and they are very similar in mechanic to the puzzles I solved in monument valley.

Semblock has been quiet for a while due to my uni work. Fortunately I have now graduated and have a lot more time on my hands! Be sure to keep up to date on the facebook page.
