    Monster Cube
is a prototype I made for Ludum Dare 33.
You can play it here: theochi.com/prj/miq/ (WebGL, tested with Chrome)
You can download it here: http://theochi.com/prj/miq/MonsterCubev0.1.0.rar (Windows exe, 13.8MB)
If you'd like more platforms, please let me know.

    Description:
You're a monster cube who's whole purpose in life is to squash small cubes.

    How to play:
Use WASD to roll the monster cube in the direction you want to go.
The goal of the game is to get as many points as possible in the limited time you have.
Initially you start with 30 seconds. You receive an extra second for each small cube you squash.

    Future plans:
I would like to make this a relaxing game that turns challenging as you play.
Squishing cubes can be a great stress relief, I plan to enhance this more.
After the first 15-20 seconds the small cubes will start running from you, and some will start attacking. As you play more they will get stronger and harder to squash.
The first/previous game I made took more than 5 years since the initial prototype until it was officially released. I want to get in the habit of releasing games faster so I will keep the scope of this game very low.

    Thanks Patico!

I integrated Breadcrumbs Ai in the game. Great asset, so easy to implement and use.
The small cubes are now gathering around you, at a safe distance. Or so they think o_O
I also added leveling up for the player cube. As you squash more small cubes you grow in size, allowing you to move around faster.
    Next, the cubes fighting back.

I like this gameplay. Have you ever think about making a game from this? Really, now it's looking like a very good prototype with awesome and unique gameplay, add more quality graphics, setting, sfx and game almost done for publishing! :)

UPD: Just re-read you first post again : ) I wish you every success!

Thanks! If all goes well I'll have a published game by Christmas (GooglePlay, maybe AppStore). Not sure about the timing considering all the blood... but that's when the next Ludum Dare should start and I want to see if I can finish the game in one LD cycle.

    Archers!!! Who's bleeding now?

They are a little too fast now and it's hard to catch them. They also do a lot of damage.
I will tweak the values after I implement the other classes (spearman and swordsman) and start working on some kind of difficulty curve.

Looks really cool, as far as gameplay it looks solid, the graphics could use some work though. You can do alot with cubes (textures/colors ect.) but doing something like adding arms/weapons or something as well as some animations could help alot with the visuals :)

@andrei.ichim one technical question - are your move controller based on applying of physical forces, or on directly changing of cube position?

This looks like a great little game. Love the simple clean look, and your gameplay choices make sense. I like the look of the AI - those little cubes are kinda cute, like little swarming critters of some sort

Look forward to playing this once you release it

Thanks RavenOfCode and czampese. I will work on visuals once I'm happy with the gameplay. I will try to keep it as simple as possible but not too abstract. I will give them weapons too.

I am changing the position/rotation of the cube. Initially I tried playing around with forces but it was very unpredictable and it was sliding a lot. I like the mechanical feel that it has now.
I added the Rigidbody back though, a few days ago. I use it only for secondary movement: when you squash a cube you bounce a little, when you get shot you wobble, and when you die you get that nice roll through the pool of blood. It's subtle but it makes it feel more alive. Here's a gif:

Sorry about the bad quality of the gif. I lost the original file and had to re-record it from my tweet :)
