    Hey guys!

Me and a friend is currently working on a rpg/mmo.

In its current state its just a single player rpg that we currently are adding hooks to for multiplayer and database.

At this moment most of the stuff is from the asset store in terms of visuals. This will all change when we get further in the development. Main focus now is getting the core systems in.

And also I use the word mmo lightly since thats a HUGE task and most people fail so for now its just a rpg with soon to have multiplayer functionality.

Working functions as of right now

    Player Vitals
    Player magic/mana
Player level and level up (sounds and particle effects inc)
    Npc Vitals
    Npc aggro range
Basic chat function with system messages for combat, level up, experience gain/loss and death
Inventory (Currently we have a issue on item stack and quantity count.)
    Loot
Very basic animations (for testing purposes)
    1 playable zone

Heres a small screenshot of current state.

Love to get your input of the progress

I would focus on some solo rpg instead.
Because there is so much free to play mmo of high quality available today like Guild Wars 2 or Black Desert for example.

You need dozens (if not hundreds...) of people to make a competitive 3D MMO RPG. If you want to complete something marketable in a reasonable timeframe you should make a game with retro visuals (8-bit, NES, etc.).

@Byberg hasnt mentioned if this is going towards commercial release or something to just work on for experience.
Might be he is just looking to work through mmo type issues - solve things related to online multiplayer.

With that said - without help from an army of artists to create custom content attempting to push a commercial (mmo) product with only two guys working on it seems futile.
What you have so far isnt anything that hasnt already been created before at a higher quality level - but its cool none the less to see your progress.
    Keep at it!

Well I never mentioned any commercial release what so ever. Me and a friend just enjoys playing mmos and wanted to make something that WE want to play and try to learn some stuff in the process. Ofc theres tons of mmo out there both in my opinion good and bad.

We currently testing some networking wich so far turns out AWESOME.

And on the other hand we have all the time in the world and as for now we only use premade models to fill out the game to get some functionality into the game. Once we are satisfied with the progress we will start adding our own content into the game.

We are fully aware that it probably will turn out like any mmo out there IF it even gets that far. It would be fun none the less to crush the billion dollar cost and millions of staff myth of creating a cool mmo.

I do have a friend of mine that did a mmo on his own AND got it released on steam. Took him 5 years to do it and affortunatly he passed away not long after release.

It can be done, but it will be somewhat not complete or very rough game on graphics or gameplay, or it will take years.
I seen lot of mmo start that got abandonned, i am not sure why choosing mmo game ?
Anyway if it is learning or showcase game, yep , than go forward.

Cause we like mmos :p And as i mentioned above.. We have NO release goal what so ever.. if we manage then that is awesome.. if not then we are fine with that.

Its more for the experience and make something that we would enjoy playing and be proud of making.

looks great so far :) currently the style reminds me a little of a mix between mortal online and world of warcraft XD
Do you have some kind of background for the game? will it be fantasy oriented? steampunkish or sci-fi even?

can't really tell yet what your game is about, besides the mentioning of it being rpg and mmo :)
would love to hear more about it :)

Thanks! We are currently working on the background for the game and currently planning the "class" system wich will be a bit different from most mmos. Can´t tell you much yet but I can tell you that the each character will have a "type of class" but not in the usual way. Will post more info on this once we have implented it.

The genre will be fantasy and style will be wow/allods.

Will post more info as soon as we got some!

Hey guys. Got a small update. The progress are moving forward. Most of the time we have spent on getting the server to run smoothly and we kept a watching eye on the bandwidth usage even if we are in a early stage.

Ones we found issues we have made sure to fix that directly rather then waiting and have loads of memory leaks etc. This have taken some time of the rest of the game but we made some stuff atleast.

    heres the update changes.

    Update 0.0.6
    • New: Patcher added
    • New: Player names added
    • New: Character vitals added
    • New: Players can now see each other in game
    • Change: Updated database
    • Change: Updated Server side code
    • Fix: Remote player animations now showing
    • Fix: Player position now stores in database
    • Fix: Improved character controls and camera
    • Fix: Improved camera movement on character creation
    • Fix: General GUI is now working
    • Fix: Characters are now removed on logout and quit
Heres a screenshot of the improved character selection
    charselect.png

And heres a small in game pic showing 2 players online at the same time
    ingame.png

Next step is to get motion prediction in place and improve the camera and character controls even further.
