    Hi guys,
We are pleased to announce our new game entitled; Miika

Miika is a puzzle game based on camera perspective and the use of optical illusions. Explore and complete challenges which combine, perspective traveling, landing and existence.

Our aim was to incorporate a delightfully weird and wonderful world of mystery with the four seasons. Each season with its own style and feel to guide the player through a full circle experience.

Below are some Work in Progress previews of Miika.

Please note, some quality and correct speed has been lost in the upload of animated gifs

    Winter theme:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are some .gif preview files of the backend of Miika and how things work. Designing levels has been a real challenge for us, with each aspect and positioning of every block taken into consideration. Perspectives must line-up correctly for the level to function correctly.

    Default:
This is how the level starts; the path does not appear to be connected so the character can only walk through the path of the current segment. The editor displays all the waypoints, other than the ones on the current segment are inactive, red.

    Connected:
When the path appears to be connected the waypoints on the next segment become active (the editor now displays these waypoints are blue/green), and the character can follow the path. The path only appears to be connected; whereas in the actual scene view it actually not.

We hope you have liked our initial preview of Miika and would love to hear your comments and opinions.
    Awesome! Thanks

Thanks, I took a look at the youtube video, I can honestly say that the level design must have been a nightmare. I know how complex some of our levels get and to design them its confusing to say the least. But adding further angles, depth distance, 2d and 3d to the camera view must have been a killer task for the level designers

Hey guys! I'm the programmer for Miika, I thought i'd share some insight onto how things work in the Miika world.

So what we do is we use a projection matrix; which maps all the 3D objects from 3D space into 2D space, with that it's allot easier to tell if things 'align', if the node on the current segment is within a certain distance of a node in another segment in 2D space then it must appear to align, so we activate that segment for Miika to follow.

I'll try make some illustrations to make this seem a little clearer when I get the chance.

Let me know if there is anything else you guys want to know about the backend of Miika

Yeah man I totally agree; even from a gamer's perspective it's a lot more mentally taxing to solve the puzzles. Anyway keep up the good work -- I look forward to the updates.

Really beautiful and very nice concept! :)

Just another video of a game experiment playing with perspective in a different way. Just in case there's some inspiration to be gained - considering Miika is still a very different concept.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments.

There is defiantly some inspiration to be taken from the video. Maybe we can consider adding this kind of perspective in future updates and see how we can incorporate it.

Like the video says, it works mainly on forced perspective "which is an optical illusion that uses your point of view to fool the eye"

So in a way Miika is similar but rather than depth we use perspective traveling, landing, existence and absence from a set pivot point. Adding depth would give it a new element in the future, which might actually work well.

Check out the YouTube video of the gif above. I will upload more of the levels soon...
