    Hi,
We're currently working on an interactive installation, commissioned by Hewelianum Educational Centre (http://hewelianum.pl), in Gdańsk, Poland. The main purpose of the installation is to provide the basic knowledge about the rainwater disposal in an urban environment. Sounds dull, huh? That's why it had to be done in an engaging and accessible way, so kids can learn something out of it.

    WIP video:

    Installation:
The main part of the installation is the mapped model of the terrain (loosly based on the Gdańsk's real topography dataset). There is also a vertical monitor, containing GUI of the installation and a basic control panel, enabling top level user interaction like choice of scenario and start of the simulation.

    Interaction
One example of the interaction is the scenario in which user needs to find a correct placement of the water reservoir, to prevent flooding of lower districts during heavy rainfall. After the choice of the scenario is confirmed, the interaction is centered around the mapped 3d model of the terrain. Users can interact with the model, using handheld markers, tracked by the camera above the model. Application tracks the position and ID of a marker, placing appropriate objects within the simulation space. When ready, user can start the simulation and verify if his solution is correct.

The installation is a fresh mix of some interesting technologies:
    - interactive video mapping
    - marker detection and tracking
    - real time fluid simulation (we're using awesome SurfaceWaves plugin: codeanimo.com/products/surfacewaves/)

We thought it may be worth your while to check it out.

Let us know what you think of it and if you'd like to know some more details.

Thanks, great to hear you like it!
So did I - so I started my own company ;)

Below is another video - this time with GUI screen working and lots of minor changes/fixes.

We're still working on designing levels - happened to be much more work then we anticipated - but we're getting there.

Fun fact - composite is made of layered foamed PVC. CNC files were generated using Autodesk 123D Make.

Ok, so our flood installation is finished - take a look at a video:

It works as designed, looks good and - most importantly - kids (and adults as well) love to have fun with it. So - we consider it quite a success.

Remember to check it out if you visited Gdansk!
