I have been working on a new game and I have finally managed to bring it to a stage where there is something worth sharing. Starting this thread to showcase the progress. Below is the progress made so far, starting from the bare prototype with just 2D boxes to finally a bit more mature and better looking UI.

The game is puzzle game where you have to 'flip' all the pieces on the board to the same color as that of the 'main' piece. This is my simplified take on 'diplomacy' where you have to bring everyone on the same page and every move you make, could turn some against you as well as turn some in your favour.
Simple touch controls - swipe to move left, right, up or down! More details coming soon!

Hope the new year is treating everyone well!

The title of the thread is a WIP name of the game that I came up with. It was pointed out to me in another forum, that it was decent one but 'Fliplomacy' is a better option to correctly build upon the pun (on Diplomacy). If I am unable to come with anything better, I might just
    keep that option!

Anyways, back in the new year with another gif! Working on some new tiles, some colors, some UI display as well.

Working on improving the look of the game. Ended up creating different themes for it. A "Diplomatic" style theme to suit the name of the game, a chess based look, a kind of pyramid-ish theme, and used my placeholder models to create a board games based theme...

Now to decide what to do with them :D :D :D :D

So settled on 'Fliplomacy' as the final title of the game! Reflects well on the theme and also have a decent look to match it.

The game is now on TestFlight. If you are interested in trying it out and providing some feedback, then please provide the details on this thread. Or you could message me privately as well.
You can register by providing me the details through this form as well : TestFlight Registration Link
Or you could tweet or DM me on Twitter as well!

A short and quick description of the game :

There is a state of crisis on our board. Many have changed sides.

As the ace Diplomat, it is your job to restore the order. Every step that you take, can win you friends and turn some against you. You have to work on bringing uniformity to the board. Are you up for the challenge?

Strategise and chart a path across the board; moving, jumping and flipping stuff as you attempt to solve the 150 different puzzles!

    Looks Cool.
What monetization model are you planning? Paid or Freemium.

Thanks! I am looking to go down the Paid route for this one. Lets see how it goes. Freemium also seems a tough nut to crack.

I see a pattern of Paid on iOS and Freemium on Android by other publishers. Must be due to too much piracy on android.
How are you generating Levels. Handmade or Computer Generated and Filtered?

Yes, piracy is a problem on android. Also paid games would also bring about an obligation to support the plethora of android devices which is not easy.

I am using a mix of handmade + generated. Because I am lacking a really clever algo, even the generated ones need to be tweaked by hand though :)

So I have been busy finishing off the last bits of the game. Also working on adding leaderboards. Been working on a Android build as well and happy to say that it is coming along nicely as well. Also worked on filling up the AppStore details.

If everything goes well, the game should see a release on March 28, 2018

The game is still on iOS TestFlight Beta. If you want to help out and provide some feedback, just send me the email id via the Registration Form or reply to the thread or just PM me!

    Thanks!

    Hi All

"Fliplomacy" is now available on the AppStore! It is now available for a discounted price. Costs only a buck now! If you are interested, then probably a good time to get it.

    App Store Link - https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1354991735

Also wanted to share some positive reviews!

Christine Chan was very kind of enough to review "Fliplomacy" for AppAdvice. Many thanks to her.
Got a nice rating of 9.1/10!

"If you're a fan of challenging puzzle games that make you use your head, then Fliplomacy is an excellent addition. I love the kitschy visuals, and the various themes that you can unlock keep you motivated to play. I enjoy ambient music, so the soundtrack is delightful. On top of it all, the ability to play the game as you please in any order you want is great, and honestly, I wish more games allowed you to do that. It's just not much fun being stuck and frustrated on a level with no other options. Fliplomacy is a must for any puzzle lovers."

I have updated the app to version 2.2.

Apart from the few fixes, the game is now localized in German, Spanish, Korean and Polish.
Hopefully the game would be localized in more languages in the near future.

Also, the kind folks over at Pocket Tactics did a nice review of the game. Managed to bag a good rating of 4 stars.

"This is a great puzzle game that deserves more attention from fans. It is fair and fun with an attractive and easy-to-use interface at a price that is more than reasonable. A great-looking puzzler with simple yet smart mechanics."

Thanks and have a good a day!

I have updated the App to version 2.4 now.

French and Italian language translations have been added.
Also improved the social sharing options and fixed some bugs in it. Although, not sure how many people choose to exercise that option these days.

And closer to a release on Android as well!

Just these small updates from my end. Thanks and have a good a day!

    Hello All!

I have tried giving a visual upgrade to my app. :D
Version 3.0 is out now. It has got more colours now. A bit of retouching and UI tweaks and it is a bit more pleasing to the eye.

The work is not finished though. I am working on a new version which would have better grid/board visuals as well. It should be out very soon. (Hopefully by start of next week.)

Also, I am planning on a game name change. Something simplistic and maybe more ASO friendly like "State Flip" (or "Flip State").:D
Feel free to throw about any good ideas that you have. :):)

Cheers and have a happy weekend!

Thanks to the super fast app review by Apple, the new version was released on the App Store yesterday itself!

Now the grid/board is also much better looking than before!

It is quite fun to look at how your game evolves over a period of time. The first pic is where we started from and the last one is what we are at today. Quite a bit of improvement :D:D:D:D

I finally managed to get the game in a stable shape from a visual perspective as well as the levels perspective. The game has been ported and released on Android today.

The new v4.1 release also brings more visual improvements in terms of a better looking opening screen, cleaner level selection screen and small effects.

The new version also brings translation in Chinese (Simplified).

    Posting after a long time...

I have been working on new mechanics and puzzle elements including some turn based elements. Still a WIP. Adding a gif with some of these elements which include some moving tiles, tiles with direction of entry/exit controlled, some blocking agents which move after every turn etc.

Hoping to add puzzles based on these mechanics soon!

    ********* Version 5.0 has been released *********

This is quite a huge update where quite a few things have been changed. Instead of having just 5 chapters, the game now has 9 chapters with better division of puzzles according to context of the chapter. From this release onwards, there are 100 puzzles available to the players with 50 more available through an IAP.
Visual improvements have been made with regards to a better looking level selection screen, cleaner icons, a new App Icon. Also more colors for the characters as well! Every chapter brings new colors!

New puzzles have been added with new mechanics about which I had posted earlier.

Here's how it all looks now:

    Download Links :
    iOS : https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1354991735
    Google Play Store : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samaria.fliplomacy.p

    Complete Release Notes:

    - Made the game progression much less gruelling and much more logical and smoother. From the heavy format of having 30 puzzles per chapter, we are now shifting to a more lightweight format with the puzzles being divided into 9 chapters. Every chapter now houses a single context with the tutorial level at the beginning of the chapter.

    - Also reduced the number of puzzles from 150 to 100. Selected the best 100 puzzles and put them first for the players. Fewer puzzles and smaller chapters give a better sense of completion. Once players are done with the 100 puzzles and are still craving for more (wow!), they can unlock the rest 50 via an in-app purchase as well. For the existing players, all the puzzles that they had solved will still remain open and available to solve again.

    - New puzzles have been added with new mechanics such as sliding tiles, tiles which appear and disappear alternately, tiles which control the entry and exit directions etc. Existing players would also love to go back to the earlier chapters to solve these new exciting puzzles!

    - More colors! Each chapter brings a new color and more joy!

    - A much vibrant and better looking level selection screen.

    - A new Icon for the App!

    - Minor visual improvements involving the design of the icons.

    - Bug fixes!
