Epic Fantasy on the Wii U
Let's face it. There just aren't many (or any) games of this type on the Wii U or even planned for the Wii U. We've got Xenoblade Chronicles X coming and the new Legend of Zelda, but aside from that what is there and what is coming? This kind of game is sorely needed and can fill a huge void in the gaming library of a great Nintendo console. This kind of game could even help to improve Wii U sales, bring it exposure, and give it a longer shelf life. We need this kind of game!

Look no further. We have been secretly in development of just such as game for the Wii U, which we are also bringing to the PC. We may even bring the game to the Xbox One and PS4 if all goes as planned. So, what is the game? The game is called Scions of Chaos: Prologue and I'd describe it as follows:

Dragon's Dogma meets Tomb Raider meets Pen & Paper RPG

...and throw in a little Skyrim

Scions of Chaos: Prologue is the first installment in a multi-chapter series of games to be released over the next few years. Each chapter is a complete stand-alone game, but with clear ties to an over-arching story-line that spans time and genres.

    The Story

You are Princess Grais, a half-elf, the illegitimate child of the Queen of Fehrton. Thought to have died at the hands of bandits, you were given into the care of peasants in a local hunting village. There you grew to be a young woman with no knowledge of your royal lineage. When the King's agents discovered the truth of your whereabouts and of the Queen's infidelity, you were to be captured and executed. But the King's own champion, sworn to protect you, rescued you from the shadow of death. You must now embark on an epic quest to learn the truth of your heritage and the nature of your destiny. A great prophecy of doom hangs over the lands and you are a central player in the drama to unfold.

    Pen & Paper Concepts

The following concepts were inspired by traditional pen & paper (tabletop) role-playing gaming.

Search:Instead of having to physically search every square inch of an area, the player can initiate a skill-based search, which will reveal objects of interest in the immediate area by highlighting them. Depending on the character's skill level, the search can even reveal hidden or secret items such as secret doors.

Environment Clues:Things found in the environment can be essential for progressing in the game such as writing on a wall, an item on the ground, etc. For example, a quest could be triggered by simply finding a message scrawled on the wall that says "Griffon Inn. Ask for Brayden."

Game master hints:Sometimes when someone is stuck when playing a P&P RPG, the GM may sense it and provide a little snippet of information to help the players progress. When GM hints are enabled, the player can opt to view one at any time. If a hint is available, the wise Game Master appears and gives the player some good advice on how best to proceed.

Simulated Sensory Perception (SSP): In a P&P RPG, players are often given detailed descriptions of an area or room when they first arrive. This is often embellished by the Game Master who can go so far as to tell the player what smells are in the air, the ambient temperature, or even how the place makes the character "feel." While a lot of this information is easily translated to the visuals that the player sees, there can still be a lot more information given to enrich the play experience. With SSP turned on, the player can see additional textual information when available that describes a place in more detail. Such information can also convey back story or historical facts about a place.

Scions of Chaos: Prologue is the first in a series of video game titles that span multiple genres. Prologue is a fantasy action/adventure RPG game with strong story elements and a firm foundation in pen & paper role-playing game traditions.

Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a bit of a bind. Our Nintendo Dev Kit invoice was due in September and we were only able to pay a portion of it. We received an extension 'til November 14th, but our financial situation hasn't improved. Life has hit us hard in our personal lives and things haven't gone as planned. So, I've initiated an emergency short-term funding campaign to try to raise the money for our dev kit and cover some initial expenses we've incurred. Donation to this campaign also benefits our other Nintendo Wii U games in development such as Asteroid Challenge and Frontier Guard. If we are unable to pay the kit then we may have to cease development on the Wii U.

If you are able to donate or spread the word about our campaign, the link is below. Note that if we reach our initial goal, the funding campaign will remain open through the IndieGogo In-Demand program. But it is urgent that we raise the money for the dev kit.

Our Indiegogo campaign can be found at the following link:

I like the overall game system.
You could try a Steam release first and keep the money for the game content development.
Nintendo NX will quickly come and Nintendo is putting all efforts on the new NX.

We are looking at a Steam release and will submit for the Greenlight program as soon as we are able. Our PC release will come first, but we hope to get the Wii U version out nearly simultaneously. And while I also want to consider NX, we don't have access to NX as of yet and that probably won't happen for us at all unless we can settle our debt with Nintendo on the Wii U dev kit.

As we have just switched our characters over to Mixamo Fuse, I'm going to be using the Pro Archer animations that Fuse offers.

All lighting in the videos was not baked yet so it's not final lighting. Lighting will be far better in final game. It is Unity 5.

EDIT: Actually, the interior scenes with the wizard casting the spell are fully baked and final lighting. The dungeon interiors and all exteriors were unbaked and not final.
