Click me to try out the demo! (Updated 13th November)

Hello everyone! I've been working on a new particle effect bundle for a while now, and wanted to show it off. As the header image says, this pack will cover a variety of quality particle effects used for games.

Version 1.0 of Variety Particles will feature 150 prefabs to make your development as easy as possible. Most of the prefabs can be put into the game by dragging and dropping them into your scene. All you need to do is place them and scale them to fit your area.

I'm really looking forward to get some feedback on this, so please leave a comment. If you think the pack is missing something, I'm also taking requests.

    Thanks,

    Kenneth Foldal Moe

Is this mobile friendly? Number of overlaying textures? Alpha blend or addition?

Yeah. They look great, but what about performance(especially on mobile)? Smoke is a bit unnatural btw. I will bookmark this topic - looks very promising

Hey, thanks for the input. At the moment I haven't designed them for use with mobile, but I'll consider making a mobile version. I try to keep them as optimized as possible. If you have any tips on what I should look out for when designing them for mobile, please give me a heads up.

Most of the smoke particles use 2x2 smoke sprites in a 1024x1024 texture. The flames are made in the same way to make them less repetetive. I've used Alpha Blend for the smoke textures, as I read somewhere that was supposedly better with smoke-like textures. Any opinion on this?

And which smoke do you feel is unnatural?

    Regarding smoke:

It doesn't feel like proper smoke due to having very rough edge.
Btw: I might suggest creating a backed version too for very slow mobiles ;)

Ah, I see. I'll work more on these, or make another set of softer smoke. I think they can look pretty good if the opacity is turned down, though.

I've just started to work on an area fire prefab and a typical grenade/rpg explosion, maybe I'll update you later today. :)

What exactly do you mean when you say backed version?

As animation sprite sheet. Those have use even on non-mobiles like for LODs :)

I will definitely look into making a 'baked' mobile version for the more advanced effects, once I've released the initial PC version of the particles. I don't think it should be a problem to use most of them as they are for mobiles though.

Also, here's a small update. Explosions may look a little strange from the picture, but they look pretty good in Unity. I've also made a field of fire, which can be handy for gasoline fires.

Hello everyone! I've updated the demo for Variety Particles, which you can try here: http://bit.ly/1u6lZnw
In the new demo you can see ~110 of the 152 prefabs. Hoping to get some feedback! :)

I feel like this pack is about ready for a first release pretty soon, unless someone have ideas, criticism or requests.

Edit: Here's all the types of different particle effects:

    • Auroras
    • Blood
    • Clouds
    • Dust (Various types of dust)
    • Explosions (3 basic explosions)
    • Fire (Lots of fire variations, will be expanded further)
    • Fireworks (3 types)
    • Flares (Lots of colors)
    • Fog
    • Hail
    • Insects (Fly swarm, cockroaches)
    • Rain (Several intensities, with impact ripples and impact splash)
    • Smoke (Various types, easily recolorable)
    • Snow
    • Sparks
    • Stars (Great for first-person shooters where the character can look up)
    • Steam
    • Water (Waterfalls, bubbles, geyser, shower, tapwater ... )
If anyone have further questions about these, leave a message or send me an e-mail!
