    Hi All,

I am encountering a strange issue - the DictationRecognizer described here:
    https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Windows.Speech.DictationRecognizer.html
Has been working perfectly for a couple years for me. It requires an internet connection, but it has been working great.

Suddenly, It has stopped returning results. It still reports that it is running (querying UnityEngine.Windows.Speech.SpeechSystemStatus.Running), but does not return results. I thought perhaps it was an issue with my Windows (was on 10), so I updated to Windows 11, but I'm still not getting any results!

I see others have experienced the same issue: https://forum.unity.com/threads/dictation-recognizer-does-not-recognize-words.1226040/ and apparently it resolved itself after one day.

My issue has persisted for 1 week, and I'm in the process of rewriting my project to work with VOSK. Unfortunately VOSK has some limitations with microphone audio and FFT data.

Any help or advice would be helpful. Thank you!

    Hey Gaytam,

Sorry, I did dig a little on this but have no strong insight to provide... Did anything change in your network? New VPN or something like this? I honestly don't know.

If you can share a sample project isolating and reproducing this issue and submit a bug report with it we'll be able to investigate.

    Cheers

    Hi SeventhString,

Thank you so much for your quick response!

In short: I downloaded this H4N audio driver for the "Zoom Portable Handy Recorder": https://zoomcorp.com/en/us/handheld-recorders/handheld-recorders/h4n/h4n-support/

And it completely fixed the issue!

I did end up completely rewriting my project using VOSK before doing this though o_O
So now I have tow functional and different audio-driven apps lol. The reason I downloaded the h4N driver is because I was preparing for a school demo and I wanted to use a microphone to let kids interact with my app. But downloading the driver let me revert to my old project thankfully.

Anyways if you're experiencing issues with dictation you can try installing a 3rd party driver.
