Windows App Certification Kit Failed - UWP - Unity 2018.2.1f1 (64-bit)

I am trying to publish an UWP app to Windows store and it keep failing cheeks. As suggested elsewhere, I tried building packages with "Master" configuration in Visual studio, but same error persist. Does anybody have luck building Unity 2018.2.1f1 (64-bit) UWP apps for Windows Store?

I created a brand new project; generated packages for UWP, and it passed all tests.

Next, I went to Player, checked VR supported (rendering set to Single Pass), generated packages, and this time validation failed with the same exact errors

11. Pick a App name from List (this come from the Windows Store)
12. Click Next
13. Select only x64 (Screenshot #2 below)
14. Click Create
15. Wait for build to complete
16. Once done, Package creation Completed popup shows (Screenshot #3)
17. Click "Launch Windows App Certificate Kit" button at the bottom of same popup
18. Wait for Wizard to finish and show the report (Screenshot #4)

@joejo Sorry that option wont work for me as I plan to publish to Windows Store.

I did not had an error running the app locally (side-loading). Only that when I try to publish to store, the certification process kicked in and fails. I even tried uploading to the store but it failed with same problem.

To get the option with names to create a package, the only way I know of is to sign up to be a windows app developer.
Unfortunately this involves a small one time fee

@joejo when you said sideload app passed validations, is it with the "Windows App Certificate Kit"?

It only fails when going through app certification process (locally run or run automatically by MS after you upload the package). The app runs just fine, but to publish to the store the certification step need to be passed, but this fails everytime. Also, this only happens if you enable MR in player. I tried not enabling MR and it passed certification.

Ran into this issue as well when trying to publish an app using 2018.2.1f1. 2017.4.8f1 does not have this issue (that is the last version of Unity we used to publish an app on the windows store).

 

We are developing a hololens app, so we need those dlls. Will have to wait on a version that includes the fix.

 

It will need to use it in the future, but I can uncheck the "enable MR remoting" build setting for the time being.

we cant build for hololens at all using 2018.2, annoying! These are commercial apps, shame we cant take advantage of the new pipeline that is made for hardware such as this!

 

I am building apps for Windows Store without issues after ironing out my pipeline a bit. It is messy. Be careful not to miss an icon or your splash screen file as well as a couple of sizes of icons which will appear missing, and make sure all the original images you use are correct size!!! Also make sure you link your app with your store account and manually link the certificate in the manifest file it just can't find it. (tons of certificate issues) But even after fixing all these, (took me hours,) I still got the WS Certification process problem and got rejected. Not so extensively though. Mine appeared less stacked.

The app works fine i every mode and without any warnings at all. The problem with them is when you are declaring the use of an API but not using it you need to somehow do this:

Apply the required linker options - SAFESEH, DYNAMICBASE, NXCOMPAT, and APPCONTAINER - when you link the app. ​

(whatever that ism I am not a programmer, have no clue)
If you don't do this they will never publish your app it is considered a security issue.

You are able to pass the app certification by adding those linker options?

 

If you do that for each of the "offending" APIs and you have no other outstanding issues you will pass the checks.

The good thing is Microsoft gives you as part of the Visual Studio, the same tool they use to certify your app, so you can use it to clear most concerns before submitting.

 

I also am getting this issue for a Hololens app that has been previously successfully submitted to the Store. Also ran a test against a basic, do nothing Hololens app using the latest Unity and MixedRealityToolkit lib. Same issue.
Looking forward to a fix so I can submit my latest build to the Windows Store.

I'll see about adding linker options, but I'm not a very experienced developer with VS ( more of an IOS dev ). So, hopefully the GOOGLE will shine on my efforts to understand.


FIXED FOR ME:
Was able to remove the offending file in Visual Studio 2017 by right clicking and "Remove From Project" - holographicstreamerdesktop.dll

Then, I tested my app on my hololens, then build a master build and it passed local certification. Then, uploaded to app store and it passed certification there.

Don't know what that file does, but I guess I don't need it.

 

Does anyone have a link to the master FogBugz (the non-duped version)? We want to track the status of this fix.

Since 2018.2.9f1 is already out, you mean to say a fix is already there, if not using remoting app?

 

@soleron where did you find these linker flags? where to put those, my research concluded that linker options only exist in C++ projects. Looking in the same place for UWP builds resulted in a miss.

 

I created a little script that addresses this and another issue automatically. Place it into any Editor folder:

- After building, it deletes all the 4 mentioned dlls and if still there the pdb files from the target folder
- It also gets rid of a problem that happens when trying to Store-WACK-Test the app, which is observed in that WACK starts and a few seconds later closes.

Identity Name= "<Company Name>.<Product Name>"

is wrong according to this link here. The script removes the Company Name if it exists.

Remove or add dlls to your liking or comment either of the method calls.

I tried following but was not sure where to plugin the cs file as the Visual Studio project generated from Unity was in VC++

Interestingly, with Unity 2018.2.19f1, only HolographicStreamerDesktop.dll was failing WACK test. So I decided to remove it from the project
1. Delete the file from the Plugins folder & root folder in the UWP project.
2. Edit file "Unity Data.vcxitems" in the root of the UWP project folder and remove any lines containing references to this dll

This seem to have done the trick, and WACK test passed

Wondering what this dll does and if there is some setting in Unity itself that can stop this dll from being included in project.

 

It goes into any Editor folder you create

I also have similar problems. I tried it after watching this, but there seems to be a reference left in Visual Studio

"Copying can not be performed because HolographicStreamerDesktop.dll was not found"
I tried the following.
・Remove HolographicStreamerDesktop.dll from my UWP project file.
・Unity Data.vcxitems filters　Delete one line from <None Include = "$ (MSBuildThisFileDirectory) 　HolographicStreamerDesktop.dll" />
・In this state from the solution [store] [create application package] [create package to upgrade to Microsoft Store] [create]
"File" (storage location) HolographicStreamerDesktop.dll "is not seen because it could not be copied" is displayed in the middle of what is being started <= Is the reference still alive?
Could you tell us a little more about how to solve this problem?

 

all that's necessary is removing the dll(s) and it's pdb(s) (if pdbs are even necessary) from the project, no fiddling with explorer or other files is needed.

 

In the file vcxitems, there are two references to HolographicStreamerDesktop.dll. You have to delete both. That's what I did to get it to compile

 

@lukasz_pasek Link to the issue tracker? I'm still having this issue in 2018.2.20f1. Even with WSA Holographic Remoting unchecked.
