Hey guys, not sure if this is the best section so move me if needed.

I was looking at wind zones and i see they some people say they don't work with normal models only models crated in tree creator. If this is true that's a pretty crap system. Is there a way to make a model work with the wind system and can people explain how wind systems could work with activating particle effects or removing them like fire... If the player attacks and i spawn a wind zone on the tip of the sword can i make it put out the fire that was in the wind zone? Or affect the flames?

Thanks in advanced and am keen to look into any options or learn things. :)

If I were you, I'd make an animation for the fire using an external tool (like Blender or Maya).

Knowing a bit of Blender, I can tell you that it's definitely feasible to make wind affect particles and other materials, so you could make this animation somewhat easily, if the "fire" was made from such tool in the first place.

After that, it's only a case of rotating the animation correctly.

Granted, it's not perfect, and if you manage to make the wind zones do what you want, it might make for a better effect, but that's definitely a possible solution.

And yeah, this isn't a game design question. It's an implementation question, and belongs in the Scripting forum.

    Thanks,

Hm, Okay cool. I was hoping we could use unity particle effects since that sees most plausible rather than fiddling with that.

And do you know anything about the trees?

Also my question has nothing to do with scripting but more of the possibilities in unity. Asking whats possible and what is not.

Have you ever tried reading the manual?

I can't say exactly but I would imagine that unity has spent tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars on an extensive series of tutorials, videos, and hosting several servers and even an answer section dedicated just for answering questions like this.

I have checked out wind zones in the manual and everything comes down to the fact that you should use the tree creator and that speed tree will soon be supporting wind zones.

You have to use vertex painting. The nature tree shaders use that information and translate it into bending when interacting with windzones.

    That's all I know.

You would obviously have to put the fire out from script when you spawn the windzone. Windzones can affect particle systems. See "External force" in the particle system properties.

Thanks. I had a bit of a look around and found the same info also so that's cool.
