Will Unity 5 work/run smoothly on my laptop?

Hello Unity users, long time lurker here. Ive been Unity since Unity 4 and its been running pretty great on my laptop. Now I know that Unity 5 is on a whole new level and I would like to know if my laptop can run it smoothly. I mostly plan on making 2D games for mobile.

Why all this guesswork and estimating?

 

Haha, I suppose you do have a fair point. But I live in India and the net speed isn't the best. I get 50 KBPS tops when I'm downloading. And I cannot simply leave my laptop and let it download due to the frequent and long power cuts. So I figured someone might be able to clarify my doubt.

 

Use the official torrent to download it, that way power cuts won't matter and you can resume the download.

 

Better specs than my own and Unity runs fine for me. I only run with 6gigs of RAM so it tends to get bogged down with Unity and Blender running.

 

What guesswork? Unity's system requirements are more about features than actual speed. Specifically it requires a minimum of Shader Model 2.0 (aka DirectX 9). His card is only about three years old and easily supports all of that.

YES! It will run smoothly, I'm stuck with much lower specs, and the editor runs fine.

 

If 4 runs fine so will 5. In fact with the 64 bit editor it may actually run better.

 

Unity 5 will run in the calculator without any issue, so your laptop will support Unity 10 also (i guess). I've got a laptop from 2007 and it runs very good.
