In Tencent, all game studios are using hacked unity professional versions massively, why unity china does nothing?

    It sucks!

Cite your source. If you are going to make a claim like that, you need to back it up.

A company that size probably has an enterprise arrangement with unity and just may be using a custom or modified version.

Post seems silly. Why even go through the trouble of hacking Unity Pro when you could just use Unity Personal for free already?

You better re-check what Tencent is or what their financial things look like :)

But anyways Tencent "owns" large amount of Epic and Unreal would most likely be royalty free for them.

No, my point was even if they were to hack Unity Pro, what is even the point? Why hack something that is already pretty fully featured in the free version? Seems like a lot of work to hack something that doesn't even need hacking.

There are still things you cant enable/disable with free like enable the dark skin or disable splash screen/hw stats sending.

Because they're not going to believe the rants of someone that showed up from the middle of nowhere with zero proof.

What does hacked even mean in the context? The professional version is the same version as the personal one.

Unity can be used without licensing, this would be an extremely risky move for a company. Not exactly hacking.

Unity is designed to be modified via editor extension. I suppose this could be called hacking.

Unity can also be custom built for a specific purpose. You need source code access to do this. By all accounts from this is a difficult process. You pretty much need Unity staff to guide you through the process, which means that its not worth attempting without a major support contract with Unity.

Actually they also use other hacked software like Photoshop, Maya, 3dmax and etc. The employees in Tencent have no concept of copyright, they just care about how to make money.

It's very funny that they use the hacked software to develop some called open-source software.

Yeah although it's illegal for a company earning billions a month to use the personal license. Had to be said.

Anyway not seeing any evidence so the OP is full of hot air :)

No it isn't different. It is just a license change, and as of Unity 5 there is hardly anything disabled anymore in the free version. This isn't Unity 4 anymore.

Even if you were trying to screw Unity out of money, it would be way easier and likely cheaper to do all development on personal and then get a plus license to push out your final builds to remove the Unity personal splash screen. Yeah it violates the licensing rules, but if the OP is correct then they wouldn't care about that. Hacking a Unity Pro license probably would cost more to pay a dev to do than a plus license would cost. Doesn't make sense!

Being identical or not, tencent makes more than 100k a year (they make more than that per hour) so they would be obliged to use the full version.

Regardless, a foreign company would have little hope pursuing these kind of claims against a favoured Chinese company in the PRC.

well anyone who has worked in Asian countries knows
that many companies there wouldn't worry about licensed software
or other requlations, maybe due to very little risk of getting caught,
but its also pretty expensive on those currency rates..

(and not just Asian countries, but literally everywhere you'll see pirated software, be it small or large companies)

It is absolutely not. When you switch a license from personal to pro (or vice versa), there is precisely nothing to download. The code is 100% the same. There are no different "versions", only different licenses. There is no "personal" app or "pro" app, only a single Unity app.

(Fun fact: there used to be different Unity versions, when iOS builds were first introduced. You had to use a separate version called "Unity iPhone". That was fun! And by "fun", I mean "not all that fun".)

Both correct, but my post didn't exactly contribute value to the community either- a moment of weakness.

    My post was entirely sarcastic.

You have to imagine an exaggerated eye roll with the second sentence.

But yeah, how much value can you add when the entire subject of the thread is, "There is people and I don't like them!"

Do you have any proof to back up your accusation? If you have, there must be a contact form out there you can use to report Tencent's people behaviour.

You look to me like someone who was fired from Tencent and is trying to get revenge.

Maybe OP works at tencent, where they have actually "hacked" Unity and are using it for nefarious purposes.
Maybe OP made this thread so that any further attempt to unmask tencent's duplicitous actions will be regarded as slander.
Do you know what that means !?
OP may have done nine ele-

The rest of this post has been redacted by government alphabet soup of organizations. Thank for your willing or unwilling cooperation.
