Why not make the virtual camera snap to the existing camera.

    Sorry for the noob question but it's really a more of a concern (one of many actually).

    Everytime I add a virtual camera it's created at the center of the scene view (even if selecting the "real" camera, but it also snaps the main camera to its new position automatically.
    As if this wasn't enough, if I delete the VC the position of the real camera is still ruined I have to undo or store the original pos and rot.

    This is really tedious, and counterproductive.

    The best way to do that is to create a vcam, then move it to where you want it (the Camera will move with it if it's the current active vcam). From then on, duplicate it using ctrl-D, that will make a clone at the same spot. If you don't want the new vcam to control the Camera, give it a lower priority than the other vcams in the scene.
