Why make your own engines when you have freeway like unity?

    Hello, im wondering.

    Why would even use the time on develop your own game engine when you have freeway like unity?

    well unity3d isn't free, if you want to publish your game with a commercial intent it Will cost you a license.

    besides the cost a developer may have numerous libraries. These are often incompatibel with unity. And rewriting these can be costly.

    And there is ofcourse a matter of workflow preference.. You might not like dragging assets in an editor. And pure code might be your thing.

    And there is a matter of platform support. Although unity does a great job with this, iTS far from perfect.. You might want to develop games on a gnu/linux machine and publish it on a smart tv...

    So lets say i want to make a MOBA game, you suggest me to build my own enginen?

    Depends on the resources you have and what kind of game you want.

    If you know the features you want and how you want them and you have the resources to make your own engine, then go ahead. There could be a situation where bending Unity's features to fit your needs doesn't cut it.
