I have not had one good experience trying to use compressed Directional lightmaps. There are always artefacts that appear in random locations throughout the scene. However, I never run into these issues using Directional Specular light maps.

These issues occur using compressed baked GI
What could be causing this, and why does it occur for Directional but not directional specular?
Is there some tips on avoiding this?
    Thanks

Those artifacts look like a bug to me actually. Maybe a bug report is in order?

Well it happens in every scene of mine, and regardless of the mesh / model. If it is a bug like you suggest, hopefully Unity allready knows about. But I'll submit a bug report soon. It really doesn't make sense that it would work for Directional Specular but not Directional.

Don't know what to tell you, I haven't seen an artifact like that, it looks like a bug to me.

It doesn't look like compression artefacts, it looks like uninitialized memory to me. Please file a bug report.

    Submitted bug report: 734187

    To Reproduce:
    1. Open the attached scene
    2. Verify the GI cache location is set up. (The attached repo allready contains a GICache folder in the zip file)
    3. Notice the "green/white sections". This happened after baking a compressed Directional Lightmaps.
    4. Do rebakes: notice the issue does not occur with Non-Directional or Directional Specular lightmaps. The problem only occurs with Directional Lightmaps
