Why don't more games have player characters that need to go to the toilet?

Image playing an FPS game where the character at some point needs to go to the toilet. Most modern FPS have plenty of toilets in their larger levels/worlds.

Or Mario or Sonic at some point during the game needed to go to the bathroom.

The average person spends 92 days of their lives going to the toilet.

How many game characters or worlds even have the need to go to the bathroom?

Because these sorts of systems aren't fun to engage with in action games, which is why they're typically relegated to specific kinds of slower paced survival simulators.

Because games are not a reconstruction of reality.

Ah, but here's the trick to both of these: pissing and S***ting in these games is, by and large, optional :v

Imagine the fun mechanics you could add to AR and VR games and the potential for toilet humour?

E.g. A visit to the toilet could generate a gas cloud or affect the sewer system you visit later.

For Duke Nukem, you’re right. It’s a funny gag. The thing with funny gags though, is there only funny a couple of times.

Probably make a killing from toilet paper DLC.

In any case I think such a concept is taking the piss.

Every time I see a toilet in DN3D I go to the toilet and pee, because I feel I have to do it lol, especially when I kick an Alien taking a poop to death on the toilet lol.

Include a bilabial fricative simulator that can reveal your position if flatulent.

Simulating every boring detail of real life does not automatically make a game better or more fun. Shows like "24" did not have toilet time, either.

Some games do try to simulate everything. Doesn't the game "SCUM" have a toilet time mechanic? Does that feature actually make the game more fun?

Why don’t games have you browse around on forums?

Why don’t games have you go to the doctor and do a bunch of tests.

Why don’t games have you deal with that weird rash on your elbow.

Why don’t games have you call the elevator repair guys, because the F***ing elevator keeps breaking and they fix it BUT IT F***ING BREAKS AGAIN IN A FEW DAYS AND YOU WANT TO CALL OTHER ELEVATOR PEOPLE TO FIX IT BUT THERE IS A CARTEL OF ELEVATOR GUYS IN THE AREA AND NOBODY WANTS TO STEP ON SOMEONE ELSE’S TOES.

Why don’t games have you have high blood sugar and have you try to get it under control.

Why don’t games have you accompany your father to get his cancer treatments.

Why don’t games have you sleeping BUT IN REAL TIME.

Why don’t games have you try to make a game and on top of whatever issues you have you also need to work around the issues of the engine you’re using and then 10 years have passed.

Why don’t games have people tell you “It’s just the flu and boogity boogity boo” when you’re going through a pandemic.

The thing is everything we do in RL has some impact on the world yet often in game worlds our players don't even leave tracks or break the grass they walk on.

Imagine a BR where players will need to use the toilet only other players can then tell if a toilet is used and how long ago by the size of the smell cloud or hear it being flushed...

And if you run out of toilet paper you have a green scent cloud following you...

Can you imagine a game world where everything every player does impacts and changes the world?

An FPS game where every dead body from every game remains in the world, you would not need a heatmap to see the deadliest places on the map they would be piled high with corpses and skeletons.

And games could have Vindaloo or Splashing Spring grenades that trigger other player characters to need the toilet.

We could be on the brink of a new toilet sub genre for games!

At worst, this sounds positively obnoxious to try and engage with. At best, this sounds like a 2nd grader's interest in scatological humour.

Its convention in fictional media that characters simply don't go to the toilet. This is true in books, TV, movies and video games.

The only time you see a toilet scene is for the toilet jokes, or if the characters need to overhear a secret conversation. Because apparently bad guys like plotting in the toilet without checking if anyone else is present.

Make a normal game but replace all SFX with raspberries. That will be a hit, I guarantee.

Feel free to try to build a massive simulator just for the sake of simulating everything. I don't personally think it sounds like fun to play, but there is probably an audience somewhere for it. Have you played SCUM? That game was trying to simulate many things, include toilet time mechanics.

I demand more realism! If the next Star Wars movie doesn't have characters taking a piss every 10 minutes, I'm going to riot. I also want to see Darth Vader deal with his tax returns in real time.

In all seriousness though, I would not be surprised at all if some of these things were to be in a Kojima game.

Bold of you to assume Vader would pay his taxes in the first place.

He is the tax collector though, he won't pay tax, you'll pay tax to him or get choked.

The part they don't show you when he's in the pod getting his helmet put on in the original trilogy is that the pod is usually filled with Imperial Credits.

I have a very, very vague memory that - like the soda dispensers in HL1 - it healed you exactly 1 point of health. I might be mistaken though..

@superpig yeah like Murgilod said - drinking water at least will. Now wether peeing heals you I don't believe it does, but I could be wrong.

There is a trend though, animal crossing lets you poop to relieve energy from food. No more heroes makes you save by pooping.
