Whenever I save a scene, it shows that its importing the scene I'm saving, which takes many seconds. This is painful when I have multiple scenes open, which is extremely common.

Why does it say "importing" when the scene is being saved? Is the label incorrect / confusing, or is there an actual flaw occurring?

Saving the scene indeed triggers the import of it to make sure it has a known and valid guid.
But it should be really fast, the importer itself doesn't really do anything.
It's more likely that something else is going on while the progress bar is not refreshed.
Saving the asset also saves all dirty assets for example.
Maybe the log file could reveal more info.
Otherwise it's worth investigating with the editor profiler.
