Question Why does 2022 eat 10% of CPU and "very high" power when minimized?

I've been working with 2019 for years, but started a new project last week, so figured I'd give the latest LTS a try and installed 2022.3.9. I noticed today though after being gone for a couple hours that my 2D project with like 15 sprites in it was pegged at using 10% CPU, using over 1.3GB of RAM and Windows says its power usage is "Very High"...

2019.4.4: My main project has a disorganized 40GB+ of 3D, 2D, audio, animations, SOs, and over 200k lines of threaded scripts, static scripts, ECS scripts, etc. The editor rightfully takes nearly 5GB of RAM with it open, but still sits at 1.5% CPU, and "Low" power usage. A small project in 2019.4. idles at 0% and "Very Low".

2021.3.16: A small project idles at 0% and "Very Low", using only 500MB of RAM...

Is there some amazing feature that I've opted into for my "2D Core" project in 2022 that is causing this?

Vigilantly closing the editor when I'm not using it isn't something I'm used too, but I guess I should now practice?

Edit: I'm looking at these numbers while the editor is completely minimized.

Only way to know what is using that processing is to use the profiler.

Not encountered this myself. I usually have multiple projects open across different versions and my CPU will idle around 0-1% when not using said windows, like it is now.

Also check in settings, I think under Editor, what the "Interaction Mode" is set to. This affects how often the editor updates the screen and GUI in edit mode. You can unthrottle it (not recommended) or manually throttle it to 30 fps or below. I think it used to be fixed at 30 Hz except for scene view.

There's also the game view settings where you can turn vsync on/off. It should be on, but it's not always working according to some reports. May have to do with graphics card, driver and system settings.

I forgot to mention those are numbers while the editor is minimized, I'll add that to the OP.

The editor profiler doesn't seem to record while minimized, but all it's showing while active is 3ms in Application.Idle

Interaction Mode sadly didn't seem to affect it either.

I installed 2023 and it also does not produce this effect, so I'm rolling with that for now...
It unfortunately renames `Item1` duplicates to `Item1 1`... which other versions do not, but I'll live.
