I am using Unity 2017 but when I import an FBX file with embedded media the materials do not have the textures, they don't even get imported into the project, I have to switch to the 'Use External Materials (Legacy)' option for the materials and textures to be correct. What am I doing wrong, why is this fundamental feature not working? If I use the 'Embedded Materials' option as Unity seems to want me to do I can't use any object, I can import the texture manually but I can't add it to the object unless I Extract the materials and textures which then allows me to assign the texture. What am I missing with this new workflow? Why does Unity not just work and import my materials and textures for me?
