The scripting forum is the forum that has the most high skilled and active community in the unity forums

Any thread in the scripting category is swiftly answered by a high skill coder

However, at the slightest hint that the post fits elsewhere, a mod rushes to take the post out and change it to another forum, sending the post to the shadow realm, where no one will ever reply

For example I had a question about scripting, on how to handle overriding methods using inheritance

I made the dumb mistake of mentioning what I was inheriting from (Scroll Rect) - THATS IT, to the gui forums you go

In the end I found the solution, and it was in my opinion related to scripting, it was just using "base." and "#if" "#endif", its something that if it had lingered in the scripting forum I have no doubt would have been swiftly answered by someone

My feedback is that being trigger happy with the forum changing will cause me on future problems to model my questions in a different way such that I do not absolutely mention UI/Mobile/etc at all, as this will just send the threads to the shadow realm, until now that thread still has no replies

If I had danced around my issue I would have gotten an answer, but I asked about my problem accurately and was penalized for doing so

Anyway, this is my feedback, of course I dont expect you to change your modding policies, just my 2 cents

    Uhm ... wrong forum. :D
This would be more appropriate for General Discussions.

Maybe you just had bad luck. Maybe UI scripting does belong to the UI forum. Hard to say without seeing the original post. Nevertheless, mods have authority, and they may have their own agenda or just skim over posts and move them if a keyword triggers them to do so.

So you're saying let's put everything in the Scripting forum or no moderation and assume devs know the best place to put stuff? If you only knew how much stuff is moved because it's just plainly wrong. It's very common to see stuff posted in either Scripting or General Discussion because they have the most posts or devs just don't want to think about it or genuinely don't know where to post.

Really though, a post discussing ScrollRect moved to the UI forum isn't you being "penalized". ;)

    This post?
    https://forum.unity.com/threads/how-can-i-make-a-scrollbar-move-using-the-mousewheel.1482591/

That looks like UI to me but maybe that's just me.

And yes, this is the wrong forum to post this. Should be here: https://forum.unity.com/forums/meta-forum-discussion.111/

I want to be respectful and Im not challenging your authority to move posts

I will give you that the scroll bar one is more on the gray area, even though I also resolved that issue using scripting only by implementing the interface "IScrollHandler"

I completely understand that there are many people who post on incorrect forums, just sharing my experience, its not my intent to criticize how you operate

Similar here, I wasn't taking it as critcisim nor was I trying to be disrespectful to you and right to moderation isn't the issue; correctness of the moderation is. Some devs just don't want their posts touched in any way and/or want it where they feel is "best" or where they most likely believe it will get answered. I understand.

With all due respect though, this I personally don't feel this is a gray area. Asking about a UI object and solving it using a UI API doesn't make it "scripting". In theory, everything is scripting but there are dedicated feature forums which should be used.

I do agree that moving something into a dark, underused sub-forum isn't useful and personally, I would not do that as it'd be "sweeping stuff under the carpet". UGUI however isn't a quiet sub-forum and is pretty active. Posts there are actually less likely to get lost.

As you say though, maybe next time if it's some specific API you're asking about then best to ask that directly and maybe it won't get moved.

Also, I would suggest that if a post is moved, it's not a "written in stone" thing. Best thing is to report your post and some nice moderator will take a look. The moderation queue isn't that large and all the mods are nice folk! No really! :)

fair enough, i thought that everything that is handled by script would count as scripting (for example all things that are not solved just by changing components in the inspector), thats my ignorance

In the scheme of things though, most mods would just move it back if you had a big issue with it. It's not done out of spite nor is it any kind of intent to make it hard for you.

Anyway, thanks for your understanding and you know what, it's Friday, have a great weekend!

good weekend to you aswell, I never intended to say that it was out of malice or bad intentions, it must be hard to mod with so many people posting all the time, thanks
