    Hi,

Quest 2 : Running some early light tests in 2019.2.15 and in 2022.1.8.
Using the unity VR template for 2022.
    Will consider testing 2021.

Wondering if there's a specific version people are using that they consider to be stable, with good or great performance?

    Thanks,

Unity 2020 LTS. Earlier don't support AppSW and later have performance issues with URP.

As said, hands down 2020LTS. Best performance, most features you need and application spacewarp support if you absolutely need it.
If you need 2021.3 features that's fine as well, just a little slower and no good AppSW support.
Stay away from 2022 for the quest for now

    Thanks, tomekswk & DevDunk.
    Much appreciated.

I'm working on a project where I need to create a somewhat linear experience in VR.
    Kinda like a short film.
Is there a cutscene tool that you'd recommend that's designer friendly, and that works well with VR camera set ups?

    thanks.

Timeline should work I guess. VR cameras and regular cameras aren't too different. Just make sure your movement isn't too nausea inducing

Any idea why 2022 is so bad with quest 2 and URP? Is it a regression unity is aware of and working on?

    For anyone else experiencing issues:

Building to Quest 2, with OVR Monitor active to... monitor the OVR:

It's a really simple scene, - nothing crazy going on, all placeholder art.

    2021.3.9 (URP)
    Could barely hit 40 FPS.

I found this thread, which convinced me to try downgrading the project to:

    2020.3.42f1 (Standard Renderer).
INSTANT 72 FPS - no hiccups at all!

Thankfully, the project is early in development, so shifting down wasn't too painful. I did have to manually change most of the materials.

I appreciate all the help and suggestions offered here, and wanted to share my very significant performance increase in hopes it can help someone else!

If you're able, make a project copy and try the latest 2021.3.x. There was a performance regression fixed for a project I posted that fixed 2020 to 2021 issues and it was fixed in either .13 or .14. But there may be other issues Unity needs to fix and they won't fix them unless people report how to reproduce.

We tried that and only got a slight improvement (using URP). I believe FPS was around 40 (still not acceptable).
The regression to 2020.3.42 worked great, so we're just going to stick with that for this project.

I wish Unity would focus on important issues like this rather than chasing the next shiny things all the time...

    Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if this advice is still relevant or if 2021 issues have been resolved. I'm about to start a port to Quest 2 and trying to decide which version to upgrade for.

Id definitely recommend 2021lts. It's within a few % of 2020 (in some cases even faster). 2020 is not getting any bugfixes anymore, so that's not recommended.
With stuff like force prepass for depth textures it's pretty solid and stable. They even fixed graphics jobs in one of the latest versions of unity/urp.

2022.3 still has bad performance (at least nothing stated a change in the changelog)
