I'm about to start working on my first game, an FPS and it's quite jarring I don't know where to start. should I start with the character model in Blender? or should I start with basic movement controls in Unity?

I feel like the issue of not knowing where to start is probably pretty common, so if there are any experienced members out there who have a place they recommend to start with please post it in this thread

I'd probably work on a prototype first before the actual game, so you can experiment with how the things will come together. I'd just use a free model off the Asset Store first and skip right to making something quickly functional. Good luck

I highly recommend http://noobtuts.com/unity for absolute beginners with Unity. I worked through the simply "Pong Game" and learned the very basics of Unity - absolutely necessary and important.

    I also wrote a small beginner's guide: https://forum.unity.com/threads/linux-beginners-guide-for-developers.978321/ ;)

This was very important to understand how Unity basically works. After you created these first (3rd party) games, you will have the basic skills to use Unity. Then begin creating your own game idea. During that process you will automatically require assets .. either use assets from others or create them yourself. I started with basic dull graphics (e.g. photos I made) to have anything at all. If the game works, I always can replace them with better/final graphics/models.
