I was just wondering why there isn't a Unite England, due to the fact that the website claims "Wherever you live there’s a Unite for you." When really, no there isn't, they've gone over-kill on the east of Asia, there's a Unite Japan, a Unite China, a Unite Korea and even a Unite Taiwan for christ's sake! But there isn't a single Unite in Europe. I'm sure the Koreans would be less bothered by a quick flight to China or Japan, than I am with a flight to Seattle (just to be clear, I'm not actually going to Unite Seattle, it was an example), and I'm sure the same goes for the Taiwanese. Hell, I'm sure just the one Unite in China would suffice, if it meant you could move some of the events around for the benefit of us inferior Europeans. Anyway, it's safe to say, that the statement "Wherever you live there’s a Unite for you." is a lie, since there isn't a Unite for 50 developed countries in Europe. I have vented my anger now, my rant is over.

FWIW, I was also surprised to see that there was no Unite in Europe this year.

But, comparing the situation in Asia with Europe/North America is not quite valid, IMO, especially the statement that "Koreans would be less bothered by a quick flight to China or Japan". All the Unites we ever did in Europe or North America are english-language, as that's just fine for most people in western countries. In Asia, you will find that the majority of our user base there does not speak english, or the neighbor country's languages. So we do localized conferences there, with local speakers or simultaneous translations. While that does not explain the absence of a European even this year, a single conference for all of Asia would not be feasible.

I do remember someone suggesting that Nordic Game was supposed to be the 'unofficial' Unite event in Europe this year. It seems a bit lame compared to Unite Nordic last year though.

So is there really no event at all for European Unity users to go to this year?

I think the more important question is why no Unite : Australia. Can't get a much better destination than that :)

Nope - there was a large presence at http://nordicgame.com this year, but no own Unite event.

At least it is in Australia. Sounds like I might able to make it a work trip. I wonder if I could present what the museum is doing at it.

Yes I have made applications to support exhibits. I have also made an augmented reality gallery, minecraft mods, taught classes in programming, microcontollers and many other things. Currently my favourite project is Mars Yard Maps, which in an in class collaborative learning tool http://www.themarslab.org/resources/about-mars-yard-maps/ I actually made an interface to remotely control a rover in the museum using unity.

I have done loads of other things too.

Depends on the museum. Being an applied arts museum we obviously have a need for it.

But most museums have an interactives/digital media department of some shape. They also nearly always have education and outreach. I probably should be in the digital media one but I am in an education area because it is what I really want to do. Ipads are becoming a major way museums run because they are cheap, so being able to develop for them is becoming a larger part of business.

I have a dream of making significant changes to our broken education system. Turning our students from consumers to creators. Learn by doing instead of all the heavy front loading that occurs.

I am looking for forward to actually teaching unreal as well as unity this school holidays!
