I was happily using the Unity Recorder to create MP4s with Unity 2018.3, but it stopped working (wouldn't compile) when I upgraded to 2019.1. The asset store says it is supported - anything above 2017.1, but also sort of says it isn't past 2018.3 and that you should install it from the Package Manager (presumably the one that comes up when you select Window/Package Manager from the menu). Problem is, it isn't listed in there for me, either under All Packages,InProject, or Built-in.

    So where is it?

Here is the asset store link: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/essentials/unity-recorder-94079

You need to enable preview packages in the Package Manager.

This is no longer the case (Unity 2020.x). The Recorder has disappeared completely.

Check the Enable Preview Packages box, and return Package Manager.

I'm using it with Unity 2019.4.13f1. The recordings are great, but the scene itself has pretty low fps once i start recording, which is a bummer, because i build myself a handheld camera with it in VR where I can record scenes. I hope it gets more stable in the future

This is such a useful tool, I wish they would bring it out of whatever limbo it's in.

XBox Game Bar is equally as useful - but Unity is probably the only software it doesn't work with (in that it will not capture the Game window).

If you're going this far, just use OBS and make use of hardware encoding. It captures anything you point it at, barring some edge cases like ancient games that used certain overlay effects.

The XBox one looks great, but it's never ever worked - I found the Unity Recorder works brilliantly for what I need, but I'll try that OBS if I need it for something else. :)
We must have paid thousands for Fraps licenses in work, and it was always crap!
