I'm thinking about where I should build my world, directly on Unity editor or I should import the complete scene from Maya (for example)

My recommendation is to make the parts in your favorite 3D modeling app, but assemble the scene in Unity.

The tool you should use depends on job you are doing, and the desired result:

    A) I need to create highly detailed items, and I know exactly what size/shape they need to be - this would generally be "3D modelling". Probably best to use Maya/etc.

    B) I need to quickly build rough structures and objects for a level/world, do rapid iteration and playtesting - also known as "greyboxing". Probably best to use an in-engine tool like ProBuilder or RealtimeCSG.
