In the past Unity releases the old GUI system has been marked as deprecated and it will be removed in an upcoming release.

Do you have a timeline for this removal? I haven't been able to find any indication to when it would happen. Thanks!

The editor is built with the immediate mode GUI, it's unlikely to go anywhere anytime soon.

What are you seeing as depreciated?

We need to clarify what old GUI means. Here are the docs on the Legacy GUI. This refers to the first GUI components used in Unity, basically using GUI.Label etc for in-game drawing of GUI elements. This system has been replaced by the new (Unity 4.6) UI components. The docs say: the old components are kept for compatibility but should not be used in new projects. This means, they won't be removing them in the next years (in software terms at least 2-5 years from when Unity 4.6 was released). The old GUI code, however, is still used for the editor and is now called the IMGUI system. It will still be maintained and is unlikely to be replaced in the next years.

Legacy GUI is almost the same with IMGUI ( or maybe exactly the same, as I am yet to find the differences). So very likely, it won't be removed as long as Unity lives.
