    Hi,
I am baking a texture in Cinema4D, it looks nice and bright, creamy color with nice shadows.. when i import it into unity it turns into a dull, darker texture that looks really ugly.

I tried to turn up the default render color, but i am not sure if i am supposed to do that. Anyone have any advice? also i am not using a lightmapped shader, just a diffuse shader with the color set to white.

A lightmapped texture wont behaved as one if its used as a regular texture. You need to use it in the correct lightmap slots or as part of an emissive (self illuminating) material.

It sounds as if you don't have a light in the scene.
