When building for WebGL the output folder is empty

    Hi, I'm trying to build the Space Shooter tutorial project in WebGL and I'm getting an empty folder too, this is my console log for reference (I'm using Unity 5.6.1f1 64 bit on Windows 10)

    i have same issue with Unity 5.6.1p2 ( on Win 10 ) but few day ago, i ran on win 8.1 and 5.6.1p1 it was built ok, i don't understand what happen, some one can help.
    It's file Editor log, thanks for all to help ! :(
    @Macro-Trivellato can you help !

    i'm using thinkpad laptop with 1 ssd for win and 1 hdd in optical drive(F: in here) is that reason ?

    I have similar issue running Unity 5.6 on Win 7 trying to compile to WebGL
    I receive an error webgl build failed, and I cannot locate anything meaningful on the error in the Editor.log
    No solution that I found around the forum worked for me :-(

    attached are full Editor.log compressed with .rar, and only last part compressed in zip

    please help

    Hi all :

    Empty folders didnt like us , lol.

    Have same trouble in 5.5.2f1

    SOLUTION :

    Just unclick the Strip Engine Code/ from proyectsettings>other settings

    Et Voila

    Some kind of bug.

    Could you please post the Editor log?

    Disabling Strip Engine Code might workaround the problem but this is something we should investigate. Could you please confirm that this is a build failure as opposed to a run-time error in the browser?

    does moving the project from "C:\Users\zharko\Dropbox\Lines project" to "c:\projects\Lines project" solve the problem?

    for me all the problem was about free space, the compile was failing due to not enough free space but was not displaying any meaningful error. It had about ~1.5 GB free but apparently it eats it during compile and frees it when the compile fails (which decepted me into not suspecting free space). After making a lot of free space available the compile never failed again

    My problem exactly, and the solution!

    I copied the project folder to c:\tmp\ and voila, WebGL build worked straight away.

    In my case there was the letter "é" in the project path somewhere.

    Thank you bro! I remove Cyrillic symbols from the path to the project and I have my WebGL build now!

    Hi,

    Im on unity 20017.4.0f1 and folder is empty. No strange character on my project. Using C hardrive....100gb free.

    Any idea where this problem could be solved?

    Can you have a look at the full error message in the Editor.log file? It looks like the problematic message is "il2cpp.exe didn't catch exception: Unity.IL2CPP.Building.BuilderFailedException", but the message was truncated. Please see if you can find the full error message.

    Hi, I have the same problem now with exporting for WebGL - it used to work perfectly well, now a friend edited the project and the folder are empty no matter where I store them.

    Sorry that I did not get back you sooner, I lost track of this thread. This looks like it might be an error with the Unity installation. If this error still happens, can you try re-installing Unity?

    This is a rather odd error. Do you know what changed in the Unity project? If you have it in source control, maybe try to roll back to the last state of the project where it built. If that works, then I think you should submit the project as a bug report (in the bad state), so that we can investigate it.

    Hi Josh,

    thanks for your reply! I got it to work now, it had to do with a special German letter in the file name (Ü to be exact ;P) The developer who I'm working with on the project changed the build system of the project and it did not allow any Umlaute or space bars and I assume that unity could not access the files correctly because of that.

    But finally exporting works again smoothly ;P

    I have the same problem in 2018.3, sometimes building ends up with blank folder, so i just hit build again and again till it works (just waste a lot of time doing that, one build takes a long time)

    We've been having a similar problem on our Jenkins build server. The default Jenkins home directory on OSX is ~/.jenkins and it looks like the WebGL command line build does not copy index.html or any of the files in the template folder over next to the Build folder. I do not see any errors in the build log. When I rename the folder to ~/jenkins and remove the . which makes it a hidden folder on OSX, the build copied index.html fine.

    I had the same issue compiling a project on Linux. I assumed that just the Linux version was borked, but after seeing this thread I did some more testing and discovered that the Development Build produced a valid output.

    Long story short:
    • when using Brotli compression the compiler produces an empty folder
    • change Player Settings->Publishing Settings->Compression Format Brotli to: Gzip or Disabled and you're good to go
    Whats up with Brotli tho? I lack experience, so maybe someone else has a clue?

    i have same problem, i ve tried that with "Unity 2020.1.10f1 (64-bit)" , "Unity 2019.4.13f1 (64-bit)", "Unity 2018.4.28f1 (64-bit)" versions. but i cant find a solutions. it created as windows normal exe app but i cant create it as a WebGL.

    i have fixed my first problem. i tried almost everything without new windows 10 setting up. Than i have noticed that my project cant create any documents when building steps continue. i tried administrative mode but it was not fixed

    Solution is:
    i moved my project folder to C:\. Maybe my project path was so long. I have another problem with my project bu it creates webgl documents now. i will try to fix my project.
