When baking lighting, I get ugly discolorations

    Hello!

    So as you can see in this image:


    Even though my bake resolution isn't low, I have very ugly baked lighting. Is there anything I'm missing here? I've baked many lights before but this is the first time I'm seeing this.

    Thanks for any ideas.

    Don't use compression?

    Thanks. They are still a bit distorted but that's probably the resolution. Silly of me. You're a master of lighting :). It shows in the screenshots of your Lost Echo game!

    Thanks :) Lost Echo is a Unity 4 game though, so different lighting engine.

    Some degree of banding ("distortion") is more or less unavoidable with RGBM encoded lightmaps, which is what Unity currently uses.

    Try choosing HDR for the camera.

    If you are interested in completely eliminating that "discoloration", Playdead did a presentation @GDC2016 after the release of Inside and mentioned (among other things) a way to eliminate color banding (caused by lighting) using dithering.
