I would say the most important skill of all is checking the general forums and realising what a sink hole of time it is if you start contributing here regularly.

I was sort of half joking about the luck thing, but since this thread keeps going and I had some time to think about it I think I know my answer.

Above all else you have to appreciate the actual process.

You can't just chase end results.

Confirmation bias is one of those things that sounds good but in reality doesn't make much sense. Basically I see it like we can all find proof of what we believe. That tells me there is some truth to basically everything every person believes. Probably because for every thing any particular person believes there are a certain number of other people who believe the same thing and act accordingly.

Summary: nothing is black & white. :)

But keep in mind today I find I am in a particularly just having fun mood and not taking things very serious at all. So if I come across as insane that may well be part of it. The other part of it would be because if you believe that I am insane... well there may well be some tiny bit of truth to it. Damn you!

LOL - you've always been insane Gar! :)
And I think this is where we find the winner of the thread.

Insanity is the most important skill for a (indie) game developer!

Who would freely sacrifice huge amounts of time, energy, resources and depression inducing grind to go through the struggle? Only an insane person would do this.
    Count me in.
