I'm suggesting you use Photoshop with some tablet to paint it.
That's the best way to make sprite.

    Yeah. Like what he said.
Photoshop, or you could use Gimp.
    Krita is nice too. :D
Some game designers use Krita, to make illustrations and sprites for their games too.
All of these software are compatable with Drawing tablets too.
Whichever you feel comfortable with dude. :D

If you're talking about animation specifically you can break your sprites into pieces (arms, body, head, legs, etc.) then animate them in the Unity animations editor but for some just drawing different frames is more simple.

If you want to draw seperate frames simply do that, put all the frames in a sprite sheet then let unity do it's breaking up magic then put the sprites into the animations editor!

    Hi all,

    Thanks for your answers.

I can't find a way to create sprite sheets automatically with Photoshop, is it possible to do it without plugin?

I didn't mean create the frames automatically, i meant create the sprites sheet automatically.

When i export to png for example, it creates a lot of png files instead of grouping all the frames in a sprite sheet.

you can use a texture packer to pack all the textures into a single texture. You will have to reference that and call frame by frame. That is through code. Or else you can make an animation through the editor using the same sprites. Try texture packer ... I had used this when I was trying to experiment on 2D.
