What should go into social image for publishing?

It's often obvious what to put in an image that should be shared on socials but I am not working on games, I'm about to update a plugin that exposes some operating systems functionalities. Nothing graphic, so I'm a bit lost in regard to what to put in the required key image that's for social sharing.
Does someone have any suggestions or examples?
